Magellan Maestro 4040 - GPS navigator - automotive 4.3"

The Magellan 4040 is a good tool for those who get lost easily. There are many user friendly options such as simulate a route selected before driving it. The hands free phone is good also. The one thing I did not like is the voice activated tool ended up costing and additional $100.00 and had to be purchased from The Magellan web site after the GPS unit arrived. There are pros and cons with all GPS units so do thorough research before buying.

We bought this as we were heading south for a brief trip. This was a very easy GPS to operate (unlike Garmin GPS's we were familiar with on boats that come with a huge price tag and a manual 2" thick). Once you go thru a few motions on the viewer, which is large and clearly visible, the rest takes care of itself. I use it today even if I know exactly where I'm going because I might learn a better or faster route. The only downside to it is that I thought it was featured as voice activated which it is not but I found it to be great without that!

Always, number one step I have to prepare before any trip was printing maps on the web. Also, exit numbers were important information to write down on the map. Last week, our family had west US trip including LA, Las Vegas, and Grand Cannyon, and no more manual processes were required. Just turned on the navigator and typed addresses or points of interests via easy to type key pad. Furthermore, text to speak feature helped me more focus on driving rather than keep watching the screen all the times. Even when we changed schedules and finded alternatives, we did not have to worry about it thanks to the trip buddy. One thing I was a little dissapointted was a little delayed response in LA. Since there are lots of cars, roads, and exits, the navigator was not updated instantly. For instance, the navigator showed there is a exit 0.5 mile ahead, but no-update for 30 minutes and two or three ways right after the exit made me flicked out since I did not know what to take. Except this feature, everyting was pretty impressive. Thank you.

it is a great product. i would recommend it to any one who likes to travel. the step by step directions are wonderful. great product for the price. i compared it to a garmin and i preferred the magellan.

Hope to get more use out of it as we travel. I have only used it locally, and it seems to perform quite well. I would like to change the voice to a male voice, as the female's voice can be annoying.
