I own a Garmin and a Tom Tom. They both have neat features, the Garmin has better security and a better shape. The Tom Tom has the wonderful Tom Tom Home software so you can backup your device to your computer and also plan routes ahead of time. Tom Tom has a lot more free voices than Garmin. Garmin is more accurate in predicting time of arrival but Tom Tom eventually catches up. I have made long trips with both of them running side by side to compare them. In the end the ability to plan your trips ahead of time in your computer or on the GPS and the, lots of, free stuff you can get for the Tom Tom have won me over. If in doubt buy a Tom Tom, even the user interface is more intuitive.

We lover our TomTom One 3rd Edition. Only problem we have with it and it's our own fault is that it doesn't tell you the street names. Other than that it has save us a lot of time, headaches and arguements...in fact TomTom is always right like me! If only my husband would figure that one out! (he he) I recommand this product a lot.

This is a great gadget, however, it sometimes will lead you to a street, but not to the correct house number. Overall, I'm very happy with this product.

Very easy to use. Small and portable. Now I don't have to look online for directions and can ditch the road maps!! If you get lost easily, moved to a new area, or live in a big city, this product is a must.

I am really liking my TomTom - it's given me a lot of confidence on the road. I'm fairly new to my area and don't know all the streets yet - and this has really helped get me around and teach me new ways to go. I no longer feel intimidated by driving in unfamiliar areas - I know the TomTom will always get me back home. Things I like about it: it has tons of points of interest (my Mom and I found her bank's ATM in a gas station, for example - we would never have found it otherwise); the display is easy to see and understand; the voice is easy to hear and understand; it's lightweight (I can carry it in my purse); easy to insert on the suction cup device; the touchscreen is easy to use; it's user-friendly in that I really didn't need the manual to understand how to do stuff on it. Things I don't like: it doesn't say the street name (however, the display is so clear about what street you turn on, I've not had a problem there); sometimes there's issues with detail at the end of your journey (e.g., at my work, it wants me to turn right, make a u-turn and cross the intersection; when I can actually just make a left turn into our complex); I always have to 'break it down' and put it away in my purse so that nobody steals it. Other stuff: the 12v cable for the car actually charges the device; but if you want to use it elsewhere (if you were on a vacation without a car maybe), you will need to buy a separate charger. I didn't give it the highest ratings simply because I know there are better models out there - but... you do have to pay for that. I think this is a great deal for the price. And despite the things I didn't like, I have to say that this little device has changed my life in the way of travel. I just plug in the addresses of places I want to go in my 'favorites' and then dial them up (or dial up points of interest) and they get me there! When my mom visited me recently we drove all over the place to do touristy things and a lot of shopping. It was so easy!!! On a few occasions I brought printed maps as a backup, but we didn't even need them thanks to the TomTom. And because it was doing all the navigating, it freed us up to enjoy the ride and talk.
