The camera always had troubles connecting to the WiFi… when I needed to check on my son I couldn't see anything. It was always loading. And the sock always set off the alarm for no reason.
The only reason I am giving this rating a 2 instead of a 1 is because of the sock! The camera is a complete waste of money. We originally bought the sock/cam bundle because it seemed so useful for everything to be in the same app. Upon bringing my son home, he slept in a bassinet in our room so there was no need for the camera. The sock is AMAZING! There was one night where his oxygen dropped and I immediately woke up to the alarm and checked on him. I was also able to pull up the history of his levels throughout the night to show our pediatrician the next morning. Once he moved into his crib, we started having issues immediately. The camera would show no connection and then I wouldn't even be alerted that there was noise or motion. Luckily at the time we were still using the sock regularly and I would get a notification from the sock to check on baby. Now that our son is one, we just rely on the camera and I can't depend on it to stay connected. Once it randomly disconnects it no longer sends notifications so I get woken by his screams with no idea how long he's been awake. I do not recommend getting the bundle. Save that money and buy a different camera monitor that you can actually depend on.
Initially, when we got the camera as a gift, we were excited and had it set up so when the baby came, we knew everything would be up and running. Fast-forward to now, and we are unable to connect our camera again to our Wi-Fi. We have followed the step-by-step guide that is provided by Owlet and have followed all of the recommendations and we are still unable to get it out of pairing mode. Overall, just trying to connect to your network and having to disable your Wi-Fi radios and change your passwords for a simple set up process has been extremely infuriating. Combine that with the lack of support and time availability from them and just having no resolution to our issues is why we have decided to go with a competitor called Nanit. Their cameras work with both Wi-Fi radio frequencies with no issues and set up with seamless. Please steer clear of this cheap product.
We bought the duo for our son when he was born 2 years ago and absolutely loved it! He does not wear the sock anymore, but we moved the monitor to above his bed and love still being able to see him. We are gearing up for our second child, so looking into another camera that he can use and sister can get his sock and camera, peace of mind to see both of them and monitor the baby! It says you can add multiple cameras on the app, so that will be nice to be able to monitor both. We have not had any issues besides it saying it was too hot a couple times (when it wasn't) but think that was because of the position over the vent, so we taped the cord up. But one time we were not home and it was going off too hot/humid, we got home and out house air conditioner had gone out! So it was correct that time and made us more cautious!
We've now been using our camera for almost 10 months, and I'm extremely disappointed. My favorite thing about the Owlet is that it displays temperature and humidty. Other than that, I find it extremely unreliable and annoying to set-up on the go, especially given the cost. We have amazing internet connection and live in a small condo, so the camera is in close proximity to the modem. For some reason, the camera loses connection very frequently. Almost always, i will have the camera open on my phone while I sleep, and it disconnects while I sleep. Considering this is pretty much a camera for the paranoid parent, it's pretty disappointing that it has disconnected during many nights that I was so worried about my LO that I would have slept on the hardwood floor of my baby's room rather than not have a camera available - instead I go to sleep thinking the camera is ready to alert me to any weird sounds or movements, instead I wake up to the sound of my baby crying from another room, for who knows how long before it woke me up, and no way to check on him without going into his room and restarting the connection process all over again. This product is over complicated and unreliable. If I could get my money back, I would. When the connection/set-up does work, it does a good job being a camera, much like every other camera option on the market. Save yourself the money and headache, don't get sucked in by the marketing for this product. I would say my camera disconnects or has trouble connecting, at least 4 times a month. Oh! I forgot to mention, I tried to set this camera up while we were staying at my aunt's house for the weekend - the owlet does not connect to 5G networks.
