Like other reviewers of the Garmin handleld products, I was very disappointed in the Base Map Program. Unless you can travel by the major highways and not veer off to another road, it is not of much help. It works like the old GPS units without map programs. So I had to spend another $100 to get a map program that I could travel by. I would have rather had no map program, but a coupon to purchase a map program that would work for my needs. It also has had a hard time finding satellites in a couple of places. Other that, it is very easy to use and has some fun features. It is my first GPS. It was easy to load Geocaches so I am ready to start finding treasures and with my new map program, find places I need to go to.

I have had this product now for over 4 years. I have navigated through the Tennessee hills and the streets of Detroit with bad traffic, roadwork. This device has never let me down once. I get all the software updates from Garmin for free with no problems. Great job Garmin! Keep up the good work! Go Phillies!

This model along with the GPS 76 group has the advantage of multiple ways to interface with computers or cameras. There are cables that can connect to vehicle power, computer interface, and vehicle and computer vehicle combinations. Multiple vehicle mounts include bicycle, motorcycle, automotive, and marine mounts are available. I feel all the cables and mounts are extremely over priced, but they are available if you can justify their purchase. These units are also water resistant and have AA batteries to achieve ease of replacement when on the trail away from rechargers. This aspect is valuable if in the wilderness or emergency planning.

I have had two other GPS units, and this one is by far the best one yet. The additional map must be installed to make the unit useful for outdoor activities. The power consumption is very low, compared to other units I have had.

The 76CSx is an excellent all around gsp. Routing capabilities for road trips are very good. About the only thing I found missing is voice directions. Tracking for outdoor/off road trips is where it really shines. Great to be able to set up a hike or paddle on a PC using the track tools, transfer it to the 76CSx and then let it navigate for you. More capabilities than most of us will ever use. One of the best features is Garmin support. Support questions are answered quickly and completely. Much different than the other gps makers. Bought a Magellan Crossover and sent it back. It was of no use off road and Magellan support was nonexistent.
