Minn Kota Edge 50-42 Trolling Motor

Looked around at other places to buy and just seemed too expensive at the other stores. Bought online and received it very quickly. Have used it a couple of times and it works great. I am very pleased with the shopping convience, quick delivery, price (saved lots) and the product itself. I have a 17' boat that it is installed on and it works great. Installation was simple and quick. 50-55 lbs of thrust is just what I needed on this boat. The MinnKota name is hard to beat.

I installed this Minn Kota Edge 50 on a 14ft Jon boat and found out the Momentary switch or foot switch was very hard to press. It so hard to press that it would turn the motor when you did not want it to. I turned the foot pedal assy. over and removed the off-on switch and found a coil spring. I ask myself why was it there. So I removed it, now it works much better without the spring even being there. But even now it is harder to press than a Motor Guide that I have on another boat. The good side to this motor is that it is quiet and the weedless prop works good. I like the Minn Kota better because of the flexing shaft, but this switch problem is a design flaw.

It is a bow mount motor but my boat's battery is in the stern. If I installed a battery in the bow, the wiring pigyails wouldn't fit the battery terminals. I decided to wire it to the boat's battery which required sizing and buying marine wire, and a marine waterproof circuit breaker. After all of the parts arrived from West Marine, I had it installed and running in 4 hours.

It works. I have it on a 18 ft bass boat, and im impressed with the power on 5, but 1 might as well be worthless. it's definately a good value for the price, however if you put it on a bass boat you'd better have a backup battery if you want to fish in the wind all day. the battery is only good for 3 hours on 5. 4 on 4. 5 on three. and if its really calm 6 on 2. but i suggest if your looking for a good motor on a budget this is it. did i mention it was easy to install as well.

The product is good....but the manual was very difficult to understand. I had to accidently discover that it had to be placed at a number 3 before it would start initially. Then you could turn it down after it was running. I thought it was not working.
