While working in the station's ore processing unit, O'Brien (Colm Meaney) accidentally activates an automated security program. The program was created years ago by Gul Dukat (Marc Alaimo) to halt any uprising by the Bajoran slave workers, but its countermeasures are still deadly. When the program locks down the entire station and threatens to release highly toxic neurocine gas, Kira (Nana Visitor) destroys the life support system. This temporarily stops the spread of the gas, but it also activates the third phase of the security program which will cause the station to self-destruct in two hours -- and not even Gul Dukat, who has come to the station to gloat, can stop it!.
