When Garak's (Andrew Robinson) tailor shop is destroyed by an explosion, Odo (Rene Auberjonois) suspects foul play. One lead indicates it could be the work of a Flaxian assassin, but when Odo tails the suspect's ship it is destroyed by the Romulans. Later, a Cardassian informant reveals that the attempt on Garak's life is part of a larger plot involving Enabran Tain (Paul Dooley), the former head of the Obsidian Order. Finding Tain aboard a Romulan Warbird, Garak and Odo discover that the Tal Shiar and the Obsidian Order have joined forces and are preparing to attack the Founders and destroy the Dominion. When Tain invites Garak to join them, Odo faces an uncertain future.
