Data (Brent Spiner) is sent to Barkon IV, a preindustrial planet, to retrieve some radioactive material from a downed probe. Unfortunately, something goes awry and he loses his memory and wanders into a Barkon village carrying a container full of radioactive metal. Hoping to find a clue to Data's identity, one of the villagers unwittingly opens the container. The town blacksmith has no idea what the strange metal is, but offers to buy some to transform into jewelry. Data agrees and when the Barkons become ill, the frightened townspeople blame him for causing the disease. Realizing that everyone who is sick came in contact with the radioactive metal, Data works to develop a cure before an angry mob kills him!.
