While mapping an extremely dense globular cluster, sensors aboard the Enterprise mistakenly detect a massive explosion in a cargo bay. When crew members who were near the cargo bay begin to exhibit strange symptoms, including excessive fatigue, pain and anxiety, an investigation reveals a mysterious sub-space force in the room. Troi (Marina Sirtis) examines those afflicted and learns that they share a common memory of an intense emotional experience. When Data (Brent Spiner) learns that he was physically absent from the ship for more than an hour, Picard (Patrick Stewart) surmises that an alien force has been conducting secret medical experiments on the crew.
