Brother Business Smart MFC-J4420DW Multifunction Inkjet Printer, Copy/Fax/Print/Scan

Up until now I have had good luck with Brother printers. This is my first wireless printer and sometimes it can receive and print and sometimes not. And sometimes it appears it's going to print only to have a blank page spit out. Why it won't perform everyday is a big headache. Call Brother for help you say? How much time do you have to be on hold?

I can set up the wifi and then print from my IPad, but once my computer or printer go to power save mode then the printer is no longer available from my IPad unless I reset the wifi connection on the printer control panel. I have never had this problem with my other printers.

Excellent quality - clear accurate printing - excellent range of printing options and great ink capacity. The time to begin to print is extremely slow as is the printing itself. A 10 to 15 second start time is not unusual. This even applies to simple single page operations. Frustrating.

Still amazing that this kind of technology is available at such a low price. Print quality is very good, haven't yet tested how long the ink lasts. Two quirks: unusual difficulty hooking it up to WiFi, and makes a lot of noise when spooling some docs -- rapid clicking for 10 seconds or so, followed by some type of alarm for another 10. Also, lots of support apps that i could do without.

The price was inexpensive, but I feel like I got what I paid for. My issues: (1) Cost of ownership is high (ink cartridges are expensive and not long lasting; (2) Jams easily and not always easy to unjam; (3) Pages sometimes have ink splotches on them; (4) Envelope feeder is temperamental and a return address never prints where it should despite having tried tweaking Microsoft Word settings; (5) Will no longer work wirelessly after a Windows 10 upgrade, Brother Support was useless in resolving the problem, and a firmware upgrade did not help. I bought a USB cable and gave up on wireless support.
