I bought this for my husband for Christmas to replace his old Garmin that still works but needs new maps....this is a sleeker model than our old one. It has great functions and very easy to use. We are very happy with it. Highly recommended. Fantastic price for free maps and traffic!
I bought this GPS as a gift for my mom. She is in her early 60's and she's not really big on technology. To my surprise the Garmin was very user friendly, had very clear step by step directions on how to navigate it's system (how to enter destinations), and very accurate driving directions. She LOVES it and I LOVE that she is no longer asking me for directions or getting lost. I also LOVE her too! =)
I have 3 other Garmin GPS devices... GPS III, Nuvi 750, and eTrex Legend. I bought this Nuvi 1390-LMT for my wife's car. It has many more features than my Nuvi 750 (except for the lack of an MP3 player & FM broadcaster). Her 1390 has built-in BlueTooth for her phone (and others), which works great! It also has lifetime free map & traffic updates, which my 750 does not have either of. My 750 does not even have traffic updates without an expensive external reciever, plus a subscription... and it did not come with lifetime updates. In fact, I recently spent MORE THAN THE COST OF MY WIFE'S NEW Nuvi 1390 FOR LIFETIME UPDATES FOR MY Nuvi 750! (Stupid mistake... my 750 is about 3 years old, and I love it... but I should have done my research.) Plus, the 1390 has a "touch-&-drag" screen, much like any new cell phone. My older 750 has a touch screen, but you cannot drag your finger across the screen to access menu items, scroll the map, etc. With the 1390, you can! It's an amazing device, and I"m just as impressed with it as I have been with ALL of my Garmin GPS devices!
I traveled to Seattle, WA for a new job. I bought this GPS for that purpose. All I can say is this thing has paid for itself hundred times over. It's saved me time and money in gas. For the money and ease of use it's great! It's not hard to learn how to use anyone can do it. If I did...trust me others can too.
I drive an awful lot, so it was a logical decision to purchase a replacement navigator instead of paying to update my old one. The lifetime maps and traffic are well worth it. There are a lot of other features which you wont learn about until you visit the Garmin website. I especially like the fact that you can record your own voice (which can be funny if you're creative) or use any of the available ones to direct you in your travels. You can also choose from a variety of different vehicles to represent you on the screen. If you choose to use it, it has built in Bluetooth to connect to your cell phone. It also comes with a 30 day trial of traffic camera warning, which alerts you to upcoming monitored intersections. I was surprised to see that it will even alert you if you are on an expressway passing under or over a monitored intersection - not critical, but annoying. What rattled me, however, was that the navigator froze up on me during a trip. The screen just went blank and was unresponsive. I had to power cycle it to get it going again. It hasn't occurred again, thankfully. My old Nuvi never froze up.
