I use it for floor trim. Two coats of stain and 2 coats of satin.
I am very disappointed in this product. The application instructions say to brush on and leave for 15 minutes and wipe off. it was so dry after 5 minutes it would not move or level. I thought my project was ruined. I had to wet a rag with paint thinner to cut the stain and remove the excess. The Semitransparent white is a lot thicker than other stains. My new problem is how do I match the color on the 3 different pieces all have custom molding making it very difficult or impossible to sand. MINWAX appears to have the same instructions for every color.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] i have used minwax stains and other products for years. this wood finisher is always a consistent product i can count on to achieve terrific results. paired with the wood conditioner, the stain goes on smooth. and minwax has a great collection of colors. which saves me from the extra hassle of custom mixing a color.
What happened to the formulation of the red mahogany stain? I had used this stain for years and never had a problem. The last two cans I purchased have been extremely more brown almost more a walnut shade with very little red tint. I am very disappointed. Never had a problem until now. I noticed someone else had the same issue with the red oak stain. I think your quality control department needs to recheck their formula. Thank goodness I had an older can of leftover stain red mahogany to add more red tones to my project. And don't say I didn't mix it well. That is not the issue. Thanks for your attention to this issue
I ran out of stain part way through a project and had to get the new formula, English Chestnut 233. I loved the color on the desk I made and wanted a cabinet to match. Well same name and number, no match in color after multiple coats of the new stuff. I still have to make doors and not sure what I'm going to do since they won't match anything else. Very disappointed now that the doors won't match the rest of my furniture.
