This is a great little powerful tiller! My yard had been neglected for a few years so there was some weed over growth. The ground is hard dirt but this was able to penetrate at 3-4 inches into it. I got rid of all the weeds with this machine and was able to even out the area with the dirt that came up. I had to unwind some of the long grass that got stuck in the blades but was not a huge deal. Anyway this machine was and is a better option for me that renting a tiller. I have a couple of areas that I need to tend to and will run the machine again through the same areas to make sure that the weeds are gone and add some more weed killer to the new dirt.
Im 66 years old and have COPD, attempting to start my small gas tiller was exhausting. So I decided to look at electric tillers. After looking at the models on the market, prices, reviews, and options, I picked the sun joe 603E to use in building my new small family garden. I was pleasantly surprised and how well the 603 went through the hard soil and the depth that it achieved. I’ve used very large tellers as well as smaller handheld, the 603 worked as well as any gas unit that I’ve ever use of comparable size. Some of commented on the need to press the button to get it started. It’s no different than other safety mechanisms in gas operated tools. My garden is 8 feet wide by 16 feet long. I have no doubt this tiller could handle a garden two or three times that size. The handles are set comfortably (I’m 5’ 6”) and did not cause any strain on my wrist or back. The rear wheels have three level adjustments on them which I found really nice. While tilling, I put the wheels all the way up so that I could achieve maximum digging depth. The only drawback is of course the extension cord. However, if you pay attention to where that cord is while you’re tilling so that it doesn’t go under the blades, it works just fine. Again, extension cord management. So for anyone needing to tell a new garden start up or refresh the soil in the current garden, I highly recommend the sun Joe 603E. By the way the only difference I found in the 603E to that of the 604E is the 604E as a bit of a larger motor 12amp vs 13 amp) as well as a higher related cost. I my view, the small difference in motor size didn’t justify the cost increase. Happy gardening. JP
I am a 62 year old female, and I found this to be lightweight, and very easy to use. It has the right amount of power to cut through clay and rocky soil without damaging the blades. Easy to control and direct forward, backwards, and sideways. I've always preferred electric instead of batteries or gas products. You won't be disappointed with this tiller!
I bought this tiller so I could till up my raised vegetable garden, It does great for those and has no issues with them at all. Even my 13 year old son was tilling up the garden beds for me as I was adding fertilizer to the others to mix it all in. \ However I am giving 4 stars because I was trying to till the actual ground and plant some pumpkins this year and this guy did not have enough power to till the actual yard up. I was a little disappointed in this but kind of expected it to happen because of it being electric. Either way it did a fantastic job in my raised garden beds. The blades seem to be fairly sharp and should last a while if using in the flower beds, the machine came disassembled but directions were easy to follow. Buttons are easy to push while using the machine and I did not have any issue with the plug in, other than fighting with it as I was working but I do that with my vacuum also. Overall I am satisfied with this unit, I would not purchase however if you are trying to use for your yard to establish a garden this only does well in an established garden.
I purchased this item, and found it better then expected. It has PLENTY of power. It chewed through the hard ground, hitting rocks, old clay pipe pieces, and old concrete chunks. kept running like a champ. If I wouldn't have known better, I would have sworn it was gas powered. It truly ran that well... I would recommend this to anyone who wants to do some small/medium gardening. The only complaint was it was a "little" bouncy going forward (no problem going backward) and it could use a better cord holder, as it could disconnect very easy if care is not taken. Overall, I would rate this a solid 9.5 of 10. Couldn't ask for a better Till/Cultivator... Especially at this price!
