i bought this for myself and my husband and love the fact it stays on corse and doesn't jurk you all around. The handle bars are very well made. you can walk along side of this tiller without hanging on for dear life. It has a control on each of the handlebars for keeping the tiller rotating. Very heavy duty! only had 1 thing go wrong with this and it was an easy fix. we have had this for over 20 years and use it for everyones gardons and mine too! We just recently bought another one so i have it when i need it. This is a brand you can trust!! Will be ordering a smaller one for inbetween my rows. This is my second Troybilt Horse model. The drive system and engine is like the first, however, others features are inferior. The clutch lever is made of soft tubular steel design and has bent already from normal use. The tine engagement mechanism has a socket head screw that engages the spline which wore off and had to be replaced. The safety switch system on the handles quite working and I had to repair. I own an older model Horse that was built in the 80's. I decided to purchase a big red because of the electric start feature. It was purchased locally 3/25/19. Was delivered and found 3 issues rather quickly. Throttle too tight, thus peeling the coating off of the metal cable. Also the handlebar levers would not stop machine. The disengaging rod set to tight, putting too much pressure on this action trying to disengage and place machine in neutral. After sending machine back, these items were corrected. Machine worked as advertised, until hearing a grinding sound a few months later. Sent back for service, and the transmission was found needing to be replaced. After replacement the tiller was brought back to me for testing. Still grinding, even in reverse. WOW! Sent out again on July 15th for further evaluation. Still awaiting the results. Come on Troy, you have to do better than this! And by the way, I have been using the old horse on occasion to try to keep my gardens looking good. Other than these issues, I hope to use this tiller again. after all, I did buy it to use.
My second Horse. One rim was mounted so that the valve stem is on the inside making it difficult to check air pressure. Throttle cable is plastic and was broke/not working correctly within one month. Plastic knob for throttle on the engine vibrated loose while in loose and is somewhere in one of my gardens. Plastic handle on the Tines/PTO Clutch Lever vibrated loose while in use and is somewhere in one of my gardens. The actual functionality of the tiller is great as also. But given what I spent on the tiller, that I had to put it together and then have these nominal but convenient pieces vibrate off or brake is very disappointing.
Ran ok the first 3 times it started, reverse did not work. Then engine would not start. Starting issue was a safety switch on the drive lever and the reverse issue was corrected by replacing the pulley. This unit is a replacement for a 30 year old Troy Horse and the first think I noticed was the handles are not easily adjusted to the side. It requires a wrench to do it verses the old machine which had a "T" bar for loosening the handle.
