When I saw the price I kinda thought "yikes", but you get what you pay for!!!! The BIGGEST benefit for me, at my Senior age, is the EASE of operation!!! Both forward and back are powered!!! Then there's the Honda engine, which we ALL know will generally out-live its owner!!!!! The first couple years I only ran it in the Spring, and even though it sat up in the meantime, it fired RIGHT up!!!!!! The Counter-Rotation pulls the tines into the dirt so you don't have to press down!!!!! I don't think there's a better tiller ANYWHERE!!!!! And by the way, I live in pure CLAY!!!!! 5 STARS!!!!!!
I bought this machine about a year ago to replace my old bronco which I thought after 25yrs had locked up. It's still working today for my cousin. Anyhow back to the Proline. This machine digs in fast and works hard. Easy to use but could be made a lot more effective if it had frame weights like my old Bronco had. It needs weight over the tires to help pull it forward. I find myself pushing it as it would dig straight to China Love the machine wish you made frame weights!
This is the second Troy-Bilt tiller, the first having a Brigg&Stratton engine. My second and latest Troy-Bilt comes with a Honda engine. What a difference. Starts one pull every time. Much better engine and easy starts. When the cord is pulled the exhaust valve is opened a bit making it some much easier to start. No comparison. Counter rotating tines (CRT) is the only way to go for tough jobs, cuts through even tall fescue like it's not even there. Try that with a shovel some time and you'll appreciate this tiller. Great for making berms as well. Very well built tiller and comes with a reverse gear as well. Thumbs up all the way, this is the tiller to have for tough jobs.
I've work on small motors for over 50 years, the tiller is a great one, but your design for 1 speed is a bad design! I had to remove the jet and enlarge the hole to allow more gas for the desired speed I wanted, you should go back to Briggs engines where there is an adjustment at the very bottom of the bowl to increase or decrease the amt. of gas by turning a thumb screw! In the future if I do not see an improvement in your carb design then I'll look else where for a piece of power eq. that has what I want!
This tiller was the right one for me. If I had a bigger area to till I would go with a tractor tiller but with the area I have and the garden space it is big enough to do it and breaks up the soil enough to make it work. Would be nice if it had a little more torque but is good for the most part; I've always enjoyed Troy Bilt!
