These are very nice if you want high end crayons. No problems with the usage, no skipping .. Color smoothly. Colors are vibrant, I normally use chalk pastels, wanted to try out oil pastels. They are very much like crayons, I was hoping they were like oil paints but in dry stick form... I thought they might be similar to water color pencils. They are not. It's ok. I will use these on my Easter eggs this year and continue to use my chalk pastels for my drawings. Thanks Walmart, I have always wondered about oil pastels, how they worked, now I know.

These oil colors are okay. They make decent marks, and blend well. I would only recommend them for kids or casual artists though. They do not have the quality required for most serious artists. We used them for a simple craft project and my daughter was able to use them to color a decent picture. She likes having so many choices of shades of each color. She was a little confused that there were two white and two black ones, it took her a minute to understand they were the same shade. I like how easily the stray marks cleaned up off our table. Unlike oil paints, these come off wood and hands easily with water or baby wipes. These are overall a very nice set for kids. It comes in a box which keeps the crayons in line and neat. There are 50 crayons in the set. We used them on construction paper, regular paper and a slicker paper. They worked great on the rougher construction paper and on the regular paper, but the color smeared too easily on the coated slick paper. The darker colors cover pencil marks well, but the lighter colors were not able to cover dark pencil marks, so I recommend using very light pencil marks if you are predrawing your design with pencil and using light colors.

I honestly haven't compared these to other brands. I mainly picked Sakura because I'm familiar with their high quality gel roll pens. Excellent beginning set of pastels, great assortment of colours, fairly easy to work with and blend. I have tried these to see how well they blend. Water no, because these are Oil pastels. With something like Turpenoid, yes, these blend well. However, as a cheap DIY solvent, Turpentine Substitute should not be used with oil paint because it can discolour the oil paint and lead to become non-drying. This type of solvent would only be useful for cleaning artists' brushes and will effectively remove paint from clothing. Using Turpentine substitute or cheap DIY solvents often result in tacky paint films and the sinking of oil colour. The quality of the colours and the smoothness with which the oil pastels glide along the paper is fantastic. They feel nice to use, leave great colours on the paper, and have a wide array of colours. Please, do not throw art supplies away; you can donate them to schools or any after school program in your area for usage. These are not only for adult use, children can use them to. A preferred choice if you have gifted little artist in the midst, it's a set that have wrapping around the pastels so their hands wouldn't instantly get messy. The con to these, however, is that they are quite thin and small, several of them broke just through everyday use. Read directions before allowing small children to use them. Folks at nursing homes could use them. Have a good time playing with these.

The Sakura Cray Pas Junior Artist Pack, Set of 50 is an excellent set for artist who like to blend colors. The color goes on paper brilliantly and I love the large color selection. The packaging is really nice. The box holds them perfectly and in color coded order. I would suggest adult supervision if given to kids 5 and younger. The color easily rubs off on skin and clothes. I really enjoy drawing with my daughter and these allow me to really show her the magic of mixing a blending color. The cray gets short a little quickly when my four year old uses them because she presses a little hard. I like the quality and would recommend these as a gift for artist between the ages of 7 and up. These would also be really nice to use on canvases. Very cool oil pastels! These make coloring, drawing, and creating fun. Highly recommended for for artist who love color.

These oil pastels are great. Such a wonderful variety of colors and many shades to choose from. These are easy to use, and blend easily and well. The colors are very true and rich. The white is actually white, not cream or yellow-ish white. This set is made for the junior artist, but I think only serious artists would be able to tell the difference, the results are similar to a high-end product. There is less pigment in these, but as I mentioned the colors and blendability are very nice. I would say that the texture of these is medium/firm. I think this is a very nice set, my only very small criticism would be the box - the lid comes off very easily, and has dumped the pastels out at least twice. It would be nice if they had a little catch on the lid or something. Again, a minor thing but if you transport them anywhere, be sure you keep the box flat. I definitely recommend this set!
