I bought my pony in 2019 and I regret ever doing it. It's the worst tiller I've ever used. Set your depth to the shallowest depth and start tilling and it bucks and bounces out of your hands. There is no way to control it. I even used my neighbors 40 yr old Ariens tiller, tilled to a 6 inch depth and tried the pony, it still does the same thing even set at a shallow depth. The machine is way to light for the power that it has. A lot of these reviews are from people posting about ponies they bought back in the 70s-90s. The pony back then isn't the pony being sold and made today, stop confusing people with posts about an old machine that isn't the same.
It's not a bad tiller my only complaint is a 5hp engine is too powerful for the size and weight of this tiller it will jump terribly if it hits even a small rock or debri. I'm sorry I didn't buy the horse instead. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I bought another Pony last fall because the one I bought in 1990 kind of found it's way to my son's house and he refused to let me "borrow" my 28 year old tiller. Ergo, I just bought a new one. The only thing we have ever had to do with my old one was to put new gaskets in the drive train. With regular maintenance, it has been a great machine.
I currently am using the 2nd Pony tiller I have ever owned, and I can't begin to estimate the age ~ @ least 15 yrs. I have never had a problem w/it, and would never own a brand other than Troy-Bilt. I love the electric-start b/c, @ my age (a-HEM!!) I am able to start it myself, any time that I choose, w/o ensuring that my husband is present and available. We recently purchased a Troy-bilt edger and leaf blower b/c we were so impressed w/the quality of the tiller, and I have to say that I am sold on Troy-Bilt, and promote your company every chance I get. Tx for all you do to make gardening easier!
I've had this tiller for about 12 years now and love it. Does great job of breaking up the soil, mixing in compost etc. If I ever get a place with more space to garden I plan on graduating to a Horse.
