My new Pioneer Woman bird feeder is a perfect feeder for my location! The desert SouthWest of New Mexico is hot, windy, and dry for most of the year. I enjoy birds of all kinds here. We have tiny ground squirrels, which are hardly ever seen. The mourning doves are the worst offenders breaking feeder etiquette frequently. They will perch on the side and dump the feed to the ground.They can empty a feeder without dumping very quickly. I cut all the outer perches off my plastic feeders. Don't get me wrong -the mourning dove are welcome, but not as raiders. Not only is this feeder very pretty, it's metal, so UV rays can only fade. I put an extra clear coat of spray-on UV shield to help with that the sun is extra brutal at high elevations. The perches are spring activated to drop and close the feed openings when a heavier critter tries to eat from it! The cute design has incorporated windows into the little house so it is easier to know when it's time to refill. Oh, Wow! The favorite feature for this two footed creature is the generous size of the hopper and the whole roof flips open to fill! I'm a Hap, Happy, Happy girl wagging my happy tail out to refill it. This birdhouse is so cute. The design and the paint job really standout. If a fat squirrel stands on the bar then the food windows shut so no birdseed for Mr. Squirrel. The house holds a 5-pound sack of seed so you will not have to fill it as much. You open the roof by a little metal tab build into the side and it opens wide for easy filling as well as cleaning. It is easy to hand. I love mine.

This bird feeder arrived very securely packaged. The construction is heavy and durable. I am guessing that larger birds may push the squirrel bars down but not sure. The colors are vibrant. The style is a little too country for me but that's just a personal preference. I have only had it for a couple of weeks so the long term rust resistance remains to be seen.

 I was pleasantly surprised by it's large size. I only filled it about 1/4 of it because it will take up a lot of seeds to fill the entire feeder and it was more than enough seeds for my yard. I can't wait until the bird migration because this will be perfect for all the backyard visitors. If you fill up the feeder you can view the seed level from it's decorative windows. The feeder is beautiful and has bright vibrant colors. It has a hinged locking roof that you can easily open and close for filling and cleaning as well.  It is very sturdy and well made. The collapsible perches easily close with a bit of weight and squirrels haven't been able to get to the seeds. You just have to make sure that you do not have anything near by where they can stand or stretch over to get to the seeds without putting pressure on the perch. The only con was when filling up the seeds, they were falling out of the feeding ports. You have to fill it up very slowly or have someone help you close the seed shields. Make sure that you have somewhere high to hang it as well because the feeder is large!
