We had a litter maid many years ago. That one worked for about a year before it began having problems. I fixed the micro switches got it working again and it worked flawless for a few more years. 11 cats. We made some alterations and the cats didn't mind them. Finally many years later it finally died. Decided recently to buy a new one. Bought it, it arrived a few days ago, today went to set it up. Pulled it out of the box, placed in on the floor, plugged in the power supply pushed the start button, it started to run then about 1/2 way it stopped, green light went out. Pushed the start button, nothing. Tested the power supply, dead. OK, so we plugged 8 batteries into the unit and the rake continued till it opened and dumped, began the return trip and got stuck right at the top of the channel, went to dump again and backed up and stopped again. Finally it started backing up all the way and finally went into it's rest position. Then re-started again and got stuck 1/2 way again, then began to move again it dumped and got stuck on the return. Moved back and forth till it finally got to the half way point and stopped. At that point pulled the batteries out and packed it back up, going back to Wally's tomorrow. Don't waste your time or money, look for something better. Once day I will get an old one and rebuild it. Till then we scoop the old way. Down to 4 cats and 2 feral that come in to eat and leave.

Littermaid makes poor products, this one is really bad. It does not work, stuff gets stuck to the tines, I hope to find time to disassemble it and take it back to Walmart. And it also came in a box in pieces--that should have been my first clue. I should have taken it back then.

I purchased a Littermaid in the late 90's, and it finally stopped working properly. I still have the same cat though! When my old Littermaid quit, I started using a traditional litter box and the smell was terrible. After using the original Littermaid for so long, I was not used to the smell. I just purchased this one to replace my old one that worked so well for so long. There is no more litter box smell at my house! I keep forgetting to empty the container because there is no obnoxious odor to remind me. :-)

I own four cats and this system works best. My cats always use it. No matter to me if it doesnt last forever(what does?) It takes care of my cats without a worry. I just buy a second one so there is always one available for their use. I love my cats that much! PS My oldest cat sometimes falls asleep in it....hahaha

This box is much bigger than my old littermaid. My last littermaid lasted over 4 years. I used Fresh Step Litter in the old box and am using it in the new box. I love the new features such as the sleep timer and the easy to detach rake. 97 cents shipping made this the best deal. I paid $108.97 total.
