We have a Maine Coon cat. Very large Cat!! He does well with this litter box even though I wish it was a touch bit larger just for him. A regular size cat or two would have no problems with this litter box. Our cat doesn't have a problem and he is very big. It keeps odors contained and litter clean throughout the day. So far has been a great product and Our Cat likes a clean litter box. I would recommend this to any cat lover.
I was given one of the multi cat boxes early January as a gift after breaking my leg, making manual scooping and cleaning very difficult. Its worked so well, I just purchased a second one and now have no manual boxes. One of my three cats has had to live in a kitty room when I'm not home to supervise her for a couple of years now due to potty issues outside of the litter box. Her original owners declawed her and if the box isn't pristine, she will use the couches, floor and my bed. Since getting these, she has been perfect with the litter box and is now living full time again freely in the house. I can't express not just how happy I am about that, but what a huge success that is for her. Is it perfect? No, nothing is when you are talking about automating scooping a kitty box. Will it save you time and money with litter and clean-up? Yes and yes, if you set it up and maintain it correctly. For those having issues with the lid to the litter tray staying up, or other related issues, its more likely the position of the bottom tray than the function of the litter box itself. The lower tray edges have to be under the edges of the holder all around. If the edges of the collection tray are not under the ledges, it will catch on the upper lid. I use the plastic bags from the grocery store to line the collection trays, tucking the excess underneath. When its time to empty, just pull the top of the bag up from underneath and your waste is neatly ready to be tied and tossed. Line the tray with a new bag, put back in place with edges tucked under the edges and its ready to rock n roll again. Once in a while you may have a little litter stuck to the bottom from urine, but when I say little that is exactly what I mean. Very light scraping as the majority was scooped in the box. There is a minimum and maximum line for the level of the litter. Too little and the tines don't reach the waste, too much and the litter bogs down the tines. I keep my litter high enough to just cover the max line and have no issues with the tines. All three of my cats are using the boxes and took to them right away. My problem child actually likes to watch it when it cleans the box, pretty amusing. Power cord is a decent length, but you will need the box within 4ft or so of an outlet unless you use an extension cord. We will see long term how long they last, but so far so good. The friend that purchased the first one for me has used the multi-cat LitterMaid box like mine for years without issue. So far, I could not be happier.
I have purchased the Littermaid system since it was introduced online in the mid 90's and have always LOVED this system, that is until today. This system is horrible! It doesn't scoop up all the urine balls. It leaves them behind. I do not recommend this product. We have only one cat and this Littermaid is supposed to handle multiple cats. Yes- We use "premium" clumping litter ( Tidy Cat scoopable). This product is not like previous models.
My last LitterMade last for 10 year's and after my kitty was gone I give it away because was still working. That was the best purchase I ever made. This one is little bigger so my new kitten have more room in it. I love it. Don't make a lot of noise and my kitten love to watch the mechanism go to work. Very well made. I recommend to everyone who want smell free and worry free litter. I didn't attached the ramp because I have no room for it,but come with it. Love love love my litter box !!!
. . .. since we got our two cats in 8/2002. That is one new unit every 1-1/2 years. The average price is $125 inc tax; that is $83.33 / year for an automatic litter box. One unit failed in less than a year and was replaced under warranty. All units have not been the same model; this is our first two seater. The LM980 looks, runs and sounds like a LM508; the only difference is the pan and base are longer. It holds more litter. Litter Maid says 50% more and that since it holds more litter it must be good for more than one cat. I don't know about that; if this product rating site is still around in 1-1/2 years I'll let you know if it worth the 30% more that I paid for it.
