Ease of operation, ease of assembly with stand. Does everything i need for splitting wood and has mechanical stop to prevent damage to splitter if piece of wood is not with in parameters for splitting. I recommend this splitter for home use with logs that are within its specifications. Great unit, I'd buy it again.
I had to send the first item due to damage caused by packing issues and no hydraulic fluid. How could it be tested before it left the factory?. The legs in the box are not secured and damage the unit during shipping. The second splitter had similar damage but not as bad. I emailed the company for replacement parts. The was able to use the unit and it does the job intended.
Wasn't very satisfied. Had a 5 ton Speeco that was probably around 10 years old and needing a replacement. Here is how the Wen compares to the old splitter. (1)Requires 2 hands to operate. Old one took one hand. This so called safety feature totally sucks! I came up with a simple work around, but it is still not as good as the old one. (2) The old splitter had 20.5 inch cylinder stroke. The new one 14.5 inches. This is a HUGE difference! This means that sometime it will not completely split the log without using a spacer. (3) This is not an issue with the splitter, but be sure to check the hydraulic oil before using. Mine was a quart low. (4) The wheels are cheap plastic and spaced too close together. Turns over easily when moving it around. This was also an issue with the old one. I will have to take their word for it being 6.5 ton. With the short travel and not being able to guide the log with one hand makes it difficult to tell. From what I can tell, all of these splitters are pretty much the same no matter what brand. If I could find a new 5 ton just like my old splitter I would gladly give up the 1.5 ton. Needlessly to say I think the manufacturer made a huge step backwards!
This little splitter is incredible. It easily splits dried oak almost 2 foot in diameter. It does have trouble with branch joints or pieces not cut very square-but overall for the money it is quite impressive.
