I have 5 smoke detectors in my house. Model # i12040A. Mine have 2 AA batteries each. The website says that this model # has a 9 volt battery. I'm holding it my hand and I definitely know the difference. Mine is 2AA batteries.
Bought two to replace a couple of old Kidde fire alarms. No issues - easy installation, works fine. I am not sure why there are so many negative reviews. These 9V battery backed up hardwired fire alarms are increasingly becoming hard to come by. Every model is moving to AA batteries - not sure why?
Won't stop going off! Tried everything to make it stop. New batteries, cleaning etc etc, also this has happened to 2 of the same units. Junk!
My home just turned 30 years old a few months ago. I'm fairly certain the hard wired smoke detectors came with the house. The problem with the current smoke detectors is they go off very easily, like slight temperature changes (from opening the oven) or basically anytime I cook anything on our stove top. My wife and I are both guilty of turning our smoke detectors off to cook, then forgetting to turn them back on. Herein lies the need for a new smoke detector. We replaced thr super sensitive one with a Kidde smoke detector and problem solved! No more annoying alarms for nothing! The one time we charred something in the oven, the alarm did go off, which is good. Overall, a great product and a great brand.
The Kidde Hardwire Smoke Alarm with Hush Feature and Battery Backup was the perfect replacement for my 20 year old alarms since the base was the same size and the AC/ power and sync wires were already there. So for me the install was a replacement and easy. You may easily get the AC power from a close ceiling or wall fixture and forget the code mount by directly mounting on the drywall, but that's up to you. These alarms are NOT as loud as my old ionizing First Alert brand (still working) but they should wake a an elephant. Do your homework and use the CORRECT TYPE alarm for you situation. Because both ionization and photoelectric smoke alarms are better at detecting distinctly different yet potentially fatal fires, and because no one can predict what type of fire might start in a home, the USFA recommends that every home and place where people sleep be equipped with either (a) both ionization and photoelectric smoke alarms, or (b) dual sensor smoke alarms (which contain both ionization and photoelectric smoke sensors). Remember something is better than nothing.
