Fantastic winter tire especially for rear wheel BMW's. The traction and stopping power on snow is amazing. For the first time, feel confident driving into the mountains during winter w/ a rear wheel drive. Day and night when compared to all season tires, even if compared to front or 4 wheel drives. Tires also handle very well in dry cold winter temperatures. They are smooth and comfortable at interstates speeds and also handle potholes in the city very well; a great benefit given the bad road conditions and aging infrastructure in our area. With a lot of dry road driving, tires definitely do show some wear, but I guess it's a tradeoff for having solid winter weather traction.
Haven't logged too many miles on these yet but so far I'm satisfied. Selection for run-flat, winter performance tires is still limited--neither of my preferred choices are available yet for my car (Michelin Pilot Alpin, Dunlop Winter Sport 3D) but the Blizzaks have performed better than expected. They are a bit noisy, especially in cornering and low-speed maneuvers, but not excessively so for an aggressive winter tread. Grip is excellent in all conditions as expected for the category. Cornering is stable, predictable and responsive, with minimal tread squirm--apart from that and the noise level it's easy to forget these are winter tires. Ride quality seems a tad harsh but NJ roads are so atrocious it's almost unfair to criticize ANY tire. Projected tread life looks to be about average for the category. All in all, an excellent winter tire that I will not mind buying again (if my #1 and #2 are still not available).
Bought the set of those to replace the "stock" all-season (more like "one-season") Bridgestone Turanza EL-42 for a winter period. So far I have driventhe car with these tires through all the record-setting snowstorms in East Coast area (NY/NJ mostly). The traction on snow-covered surfaces is EXCELLENT, nevergot the car spinning out or even fishtailing or completely stuck even when slowly moving through 1 foot of snow, never used a shovel to "dig it out" after leaving it parked on local street overnight. "Night and Day" difference between stock all-season tires (which is what I've used last winter) and these when it comesto winter season, can't believe same manufacturer makes both tires... The handling/steering response didn't seem to change noticeably on a "clear" (not coveredby snow/ice) road surfaces, same goes for overall driving comfort. These tires are a little bit noisy (more than the stock ones), but I'm willing to tolerate that noise considering the excellent winter traction these tires have.
These are the best of all the winter tires I have owned, ie: Dunlop SP winter sport M3,Pirelli 210 Sottozero and Pirelli winter carving. All were runflats except the Winter carvings. All winter tires seem to last 3 winters and possibly through the final summer.
I got these tires for Wisconsin winter driving for my 135i. I recognized better grip right away from the day they got on the car in 40 degrees F compared to my performance summer tires. I have been extremely impressed with the grip and control of these tires in low temperatures and on ice and snow, even on my RWD vehicle. With these tires on, my car feels more secure on snow that myprevious AWD vehicle with all-season tires. This is a big step up to have a setof winter wheels in addition to summer wheels.< br>< br>< br>< br>One note on the negative side is an increase in road noise on wet pavement by higher temperaturesaround 50 degrees: in these conditions, it feels like the rubber compound sticks to the wet road and makes more noise. Anyway, these tires should be swapped for others when the average temp reaches 50 degrees. Although I have not driven inreally hard rain, I still feel confident in the rain. On dry pavement in cold temperatures, both grip and control are magnificent.< br>< br>< br>< br>I will buy again when these tires reach their end of life.
