I don't know if I got a bad batch or what, but this paint would not cure. After 2 months my walls are still sticky. I ended up having to go to Sherwin Williams to buy paint and re-do my walls...prep was not hard because all it took was a damp cloth to wipe the Better Homes and Garden Paint off my walls....What does that tell you?
I had purchased the Cool Colbalt and the Deep Garnet colors. The Colbalt was ok for application only two coats, but I was surprisingly disappointed that the color was much much darker on the walls. The Garnet has been my most displeasing choice. I don't know if it was just the color or the paint, but I am now on the 6th coat on a white wall. I have only done 2 8'x10' and I have to get ANOTHER gallon on paint. In all my years of painting I have never had to put that many coats on. And for almost $25 a gallon, I feel I have wasted some money here. Plus I did the colbalt in one day, and I am on day 4 with the garnet... like I have all the time in the world!
Bought this paint for kitchen cabinets, bathroom cabinet and trim for three rooms. It peels off like sunburnt skin. I am having to peel it off, sand, prime, and repaint with a different brand. It is costing me more to fix the problem than if I had purchased something different to start with. I even called the company and was told it took 30 days for it to completely cure. Called a professional painter for advice and was told paint should never take 30 days to cure and it had an adhesion problem. Wal-mart should pull this product from its shelves.
A national consumer review magazine had recommended another paint, which performed very poorly. I switched to BH&G paint and could not have been happier with the coverage, color accuracy, consistency or patina. An excellent value all the way around.
I purchased the Steel Blue Semi-gloss to paint my sons' bathroom about six months ago. I usually buy paint from Lowe's, which is 35 miles from my home. Since Wal-Mart is a five minute drive, I decided to try the BHG, hoping for the best. The paint is quite thin, and can be very sticky, even days after it is applied. Days after after painting, I installed a tension shower rod, and the paint stuck to the rod, pulling the paint off as I tried to adjust it. There are several places that I will have to repaint because the paint does peel. Two coats seemed to be enough in most places because the wall was already white, but not quite enough in the area that I tested several colors before painting. I found that this area required four coats. I purchased the paint because it seemed to be a good deal, but it's not so much of a good deal when you have to spend twice the time and use twice the amount of paint. It serves the purpose if you are on a budget, and absolutely desperate, but if not, it is best to just go for the better brand. In this case, you will get what you pay for.
