These are very thin but held my pen within the template. The thinness allows for use on curved surfaces, like a keg or barrel. It includes the full alphabet and digits plus some basic punctuation. You can see in my picture how the spacing looks. I didn't draw any guide lines for the letters, just eyeballed the space between the letters. You can adjust the spread of the gaps within a letter, if you was a more unbroken line look to your letters. Besides tracing the outline, you can use these to do spray paint lettering, but I'd probably pre-cut the finished words in some card stock if I was going to repeat the words a lot.

It's winter here, so I had to be careful when testing these out with paint, since I couldn't do it outside or with windows open. I also hadn't purchased the supplies that would work best with these, such as a good, small paintbrush. What I had on hand was wide and thick, it made it difficult to give these a fair test. What I did find was that, with the supplies I had, they were satisfactory at not letting paint bleed through. I taped down only the corners of the stencil and lightly swiped back and forth with a good quality, satin finish wall paint. With the paintbrush I had, it was difficult to get to the very edges of the design. It filled in the center well enough, but the edges of the plastic wouldn't allow the bristles to get close to the edges. A small, typical paint brush is going to be too small, these letters have a fair amount of empty space in them. You are going to want to experiment with a selection of sizes to see which covers the best with the least amount of effort. The letters are an excellent, common size. Perfect for small to medium home crafting with the letters large enough for viewing from a distance, fitting in with other, generic designs. While it could be time consuming if you are creating a phrase, you will need to do one letter, move the stencil, do another letter, etc, since there is little to no bleed through, there should be minimal wait time in between doing letters. You won't need to wait for paint to drive so it doesn't transfer to the next location. For tracing, they are perfect. The plastic thickness allow the pencil lead to rest solid against it as you trace. However, I am not talented enough to trace and then paint in the letters. I'm not good at staying in the lines. The stencil itself is fine, it has enough thickness to prevent bleed through, I haven't used a stencil like this before, so I can't state whether it being too thick was the cause of the issues getting the paint to the edge, especially considering my brush. For home crafting, making signs, these are going to be a good choice. Easy to use, very easy to clean up. I literally just rinsed the paint off with water and let them dry to see how they did. Just a few tiny areas that I had to give a little rub to, otherwise they were spotless.

I am making some large photo collages for a family reunion this summer and these are the perfect size for captioning. I love that included in this set is an exclamation point and question mark. They look easy to use and easy to space the letters. This is going to be a great finishing touch and I am very excited to work with these stencils.
