Cardinal Health Thumb Tab Style Transparent Dressing consists of a thin film backing with an adhesive not made from natural rubber latex. The dressing is breathable, allowing good oxygen and moisture vapor exchange. It is water resistant. Indications: Cardinal Health Thumb Tab Style Transparent Dressing is intended for wound care applications, securing objects to the skin and as a secondary dressing. The moisture vapor permeability allows excess moisture to vent, while maintaining a moist wound environment conducive to healing. Common applications include: Blisters, minor cuts and scrapes Minor surgical wounds Minor burns Catheter/IV sites Early stage bedsores (stage I and II pressure ulcers) Contraindications: Not intended for use on third degree burns. Warning: Do not use the dressing as a replacement for sutures and other primary wound closure methods. Precautions: Stop any bleeding at the site before applying dressing. Do not stretch the dressing during application as tension can cause trauma to the skin. Make sure the skin is dry. Transparent Dressing should not be re-sterilized. The dressing may be used on an infected site, only when under the care of a health care professional. Dressing Selection: Choose a dressing that is a size larger than the wound or catheter site in order to provide a one inch margin for the film to adhere to dry, healthy skin. Directions for Use: Clip excess hair to help ensure proper adhesion. Shaving is not recommended. Wash hands thoroughly and put on clean disposable gloves. Dry surrounding skin thoroughly. Remove dressing from packaging. Peel release liner from dressing to expose adhesive surface. Center dressing over the wound site and press dressing into place. Slowly remove the paper frame by lifting the pull tab, using pressure to smooth down the dressing edges. Remove gloves by pulling them inside out; discard in leak proof plastic bag. Wash hands thoroughly after removing gloves. Site Care: The site should be observed for signs of infection or other complications. If infection is suspected, remove the dressing, inspect the site directly and determine appropriate medical intervention. Change the dressing according to institution protocol or when the barrier properties have been compromised. Directions for Removal: Wash hands thoroughly and put on clean disposable gloves. Gently grasp an edge of the dressing and slowly peel from the skin in the direction of hair growth. For removal from IV sites or other devices, grasp one edge of the dressing and gently pull straight out to stretch it and release adhesion. Care should be taken not to dislodge catheters or other devices or to disrupt the wound surface when during removal. Avoid skin trauma by peeling the dressing back, rather than pulling it up from the skin. Support the skin while removing the dressing. If the dressing adheres to the wound surface, it can be gently soaked off. To aid in lifting the dressing edge, secure a piece of medical tape to one corner and rub firmly. Use the tape as a tab to help slowly peel back the dressing. Proceed with Step 2 to remove the remainder of the dressing. Dispose of used dressing in container for medical waste or double-bag in a leak proof plastic bag. Remove gloves by pulling them inside out; discard in leak proof plastic bag. Wash hands thoroughly after removing gloves. Shelf Life: Refer to the expiration date that appears on each package.
