Rechargeable batteries not last at all. Avoid buying a headlamp with rechargeable batteries

I don't think that I got half a dozen charges out of these things before they were completely shot. Might as well have just bought disposable batteries.

It is common practice to tape the end of the battery so they don't short out while in transit / storage (in my backpack). I use a transparent thin tape to cover the negative end, then rip the tape off when I need it. The old ones were lost, so i put in the new ones which worked great until i tried to recharge. It just flashed red. My buddy let me borrow is light to see what I missed. Nothing. Then I noticed the negative end of the battery is bear. I still had tape on the side of the battery. I cleaned that off and now it charges! The battery holder has contact at the end and side of the battery.

I really wanted these to work as I love the concept of a rechargeable headlamp; unfortunately, after four different sets and two years of trying I have concluded that the batteries are just terrible. They don't hold a charge for more than a few months sitting on a shelf. If they drain they do not charge in the headlamp. I have switched to non rechargeable lithium batteries which means they cannot be recharged. In sum, I have used black diamond products for decades but I think it is time to move on. If you are going to roll out a proprietary profit center at least do it right. Your rechargeable system is a bad joke.
