I've relied on this 17kw for 4 years, and it's always saved the day. I've been through a few hurricanes and severe storms and the region was without power for weeks, but not me! I don't miss spending each day hunting for gas or gas rationing using my old gas generator. I have a medical condition and now having my whole house running on the Generac is a blessing!
We live in Central New Jersey and, as far as reliable power goes, you would think we live in The Stone Age. Our genny has kicked in so many times (plus Irene got us for four days straight) that we'll never be without one of these. We've had it for maybe five years and it is 100% reliable. In the current 100* temps and ANOTHER thunder storm that wiped out power, it fed a lot of the house PLUS kicked over a 3.5T central air unit. I know these units are not cheap BUT I KNOW we would have lost almost 3/4 of the fully installed cost in expensive refrigerated meds and food over that time. The only reason why I stepped down a bit on installation was the company who did the installation did a VERY good job but lost money on the deal and stopped installing them. Based on my recommendation, my buddy bought a 7kW version at a big box store and had a heck of a time finding an installer that would actually show up. We're moving and will get another one.
Best investment I ever made. I live in a rural area outside Cedar Springs Michigan and lose power often. I purchased the Guardian 17kw Aluminum Enclosure and Base Fascia. I had the unit installed by a distributor who is an electrical engineer/electrician. He did a wonderful job. I have had my generator a little over a year now, and been without power for 25 hours and 42 minutes so far.
This Morning the weather is perfect, no snow, rain, wind nothing and the power goes out..the wife was in the middle of getting ready for work and the 17Kw powered right up without a hicup and zero ear bending for me:) Peace of mind, increase home value, saftey and security. Best investment into our home we've ever made!
While it took us quite a while to find the ideal "installer" we finally got our unit installed in the spring of 2011. We had no major power-outages to test the unit until Hurricane Irene hit our area hard in late August of 2011. We live in an older neighborhood with lots of mature trees, and the hurricane toppled dozens of trees; and with them, dozens of powerlines. My neighborhood was without power for over ten days, and during that entire time, our Generac generator performed flawlessly. Our unit was large enough to provide all the power we needed to go about our lives with minimal disruption. The unit comes on automatically when we lose power, and cuts off automatically when power is restored. To keep the battery charged, and to keep the unit in a "ready" state, it comes on automatically for 10 minutes once a week, and you can select the day and time you want it to go through the self-test process. The bottom line is that this Generac generator gives you a complete sense of security and peace-of-mind. A very well designed, sophisticated product. In addition to the convenience this unit provided following hurricane Irene, it also saved us a lot of money by keeping all of our frozens foods (2 refrigerators), frozen solid.
