I'm not an expert on turntables but I looked up everything about the top rated ones in my price range and decided to get this one and I love everything about it.

This is a top of the line entry level turntable. One can spend several hundred to thousands of dollars for a turntable, but look no further than Audio-Technica AT-LP120. The sound is great. Just follow the instructions for setting it up. The direct drive motor holds the speed as specified, i.e. 33-1/3. There are calibration dots built in to the platter for the purpose of monitoring speed. There are many videos on you tube about this model. My favorite site is Vinyl Eyezz. You will find it can also be customized, i.e. cartridge, needle, counter weight, etc.

As a turntable I think it is excellent. Easy to set up and operate. Using the Audacity software to record to a computer is another matter altogether! The software is not simple and for those who just want to get in, turn the key and drive, be warned--it isn't that simple. Even the instructions seem to be written by software engineers for software engineers. I am sure I shall figure it all out in time, but my hopes to just put my LPs on the turntable, record to the computer and download to my iPod quickly and simply will not be realized.
