I bought this camera recently and have been experimenting with it. so far I'm very happy with the results. It has many powerful functions and I'm not sure I'll be able to enjoy all of them, but it will spur me to be a better photographer. My two chief annoyances are that the screen is not touch enabled and the ergonomics are not the best. This camera should have a grip, because it's small and could easily slip given the material of which it's made
Walmart had the lowest price for this camera, $150 less than other places. Ordering online: The first credit card I used (Fidelity) kept generating a fraud alert. Second card was from Chase and generated fraud alerts which I overrode and used to purchase the item. A day later I got a call from Fidelity and they said that high dollar purchases at Walmart are an indication of possible fraud; hence the alerts. Fulfillment of the Order: The camera wasn't stocked and sold by Walmart. It was sold through Walmart by one of their 3rd party vendors. That was a minor concern until I received my camera. The A/C adaptor for the camera was not US compatible. This means the 3rd party was using stock not purchased for sale and use in the US. Return/Refund Process: It starts off very easy - initiate it online, print out a sheet with the barcode, take it to a Walmart store. Gotcha! It can take up to 2 weeks before you receive the refund back to your credit card. The item you got from the 3rd party needs to be shipped back to them, they examine the product and they authorize the refund! Not exactly something that is stated in the 30 day return policy. In addition to that the clerk was not interested in verifying that the all of the items were in the box and not put to use. I had to insist it look at it. Would I shop at Walmart again - yes. Would I buy something from then online? Only if it was clear that it is stocked by Walmart and sold by Walmart.
After not owning anything other than a iPhone for shooting photos, I finally decided to purchase a good travel camera, Sony's RX100M7. The price was right on this one, since it was $200 less than anywhere else. I am really enjoying this thing although there is a lot to learn to really get the most out of it, and I continue to look at YouTube videos to help with that. The camera does not come with a printed manual, a problem since it requires web access to learn how to use it. You can download a document with web links to different features and usage, but that's not ideal when you're out traveling and have no access. So read and watch everything in preparation for using this thing. You can keep the Sony RX100M7 in full Auto mode if you want, although I recommend a less expensive camera if that is your end goal. This camera can do all sorts of neat things if you know the fine points of its features, and I recommend that you do. It takes nice steady videos, can be used for Vlogging although you would need an external microphone and a bracket to affix it to since the camera does not have a spot for an external mic. So that's a negative, but one of the few for a camera in this class. Other negatives include a very complex menu system of all the features and options, and the back video display screen only allows for very basic touch-sensor use, none of which are related to menus. The touch screen is used mostly for setting a focus point when you are taking a photograph, so extremely limited use. Also, the menu's built-in Help features are very basic. Another negative is the battery life. Plan on purchasing an additional battery or two and an external charger if you will be shooting a lot during the day. Also, the photos and/or videos can get quite large depending on which settings you use, so have a fast, large SD or compatible memory card (or two or three!) if you know you'll be taking a lot of photos/videos during any day of use. Finally, here's what else you'll probably need to be happy with your RX100M7 -- a screen protector for the rear video screen, a carry case of some sort to house the camera when not in use, along with its batteries, extra SD card, charge cable, etc. You might buy a pricey video gimbal if you do a ton of video work and want extreme steadiness, as well as a tripod to use for night photos, action, etc. That's a start, anyway. Good luck with your new RX100M7 camera, it's a good one if these conditions fit your profile!
I came from a Nikon d750 with a range of lenses from 24mm to 200mm. It got old lugging all that gear around. I wanted small but still something I could count on for great high quality images. So, I got me a Sony RX100 M7... I have had this camera now for 9mo. It takes a little getting used to and you need to spend some time with its feature set, which is enormous btw. If you do you will find a very capable camera. I am pleased with IQ and how very fast the camera is. It starts quickly, shoots fast i.e. NO shutter lag, the AF is very fast and spot on. I have spent a good amount of time with its features and how I want it set up. I highly advise people to utilize the memory recall feature and set the camera up for certain shooting situations. I have one for sports, portraits and landscapes. This took a bit of time but was actually enjoyable and well worth it. The camera's lens is fantastic, from 24mm to 200mm the images are sharp and clear. JPG's are the best I have seen from any camera. You don't buy this camera to just use it on auto, although it will give really great results, it's features are just to good to pass up. I urge anyone to spend a Sat. morning going through the manual and really getting to know it's features. The auto ISO is one I use 90% of the time now, something I never did with my DSLR. Overall I love the camera, it's size, it's weight.. it's so much nicer to haul around then 15lbs of DSLR gear.
I'm really into outdoor, astrophotography, and action shots. The camera performs amazing and never let's me down. I'm still learning as I'm new to photography. The issue I've had with the d3500 is when I use certain lenses I've found it hard to get pictures to turn out correct, I always seem to get lot of grain using lenses not in this kit. Overall the kit lens performs amazing for all the different photos I have taken already.
