I'm a fan of automatic refill. The cartridge has a short shelf life. Old ink will clog the printer heads and lead to incomplete printing on a page. Performing head cleaning operations can consume a quarter of the cartridge supply of ink. It's best to only keep a reserve of ink if you using a lot ink.

your ink is good, but many have good ink. My main peeve is you indicate the ink reservoir to be low or empty when it's not. Then even though there is remaining ink, you have engineered the software to not allow continuation of printing without replacing with a new cartridge. You indicate empty even earlier (more ink remaining) when using a non-brother cartridge. When time comes to replace the printer, I will do so with a non-brother printer.

I do very little color printing. 95% Black. Yet my color cartridges run out with little actual use. Why, because the machine eats up lots of ink every time it performs a self cleaning.. Very profitable for Brother, but a costly loss for us consumers. Brother, what is your solution?

The first time I bought Brother ink for my MFC printer I was pretty happy. It lasted a fairly long time even with 2 kids at home. The last 2 times buying for the same printer the ink has showed empty 2 days after installing it without even printing. The other infuriating thing is that it says my yellow is empty. To me that is a workable situation for the moment. I can print this in black and white... WRONG! Printer won't print at all because the yellow is low. I will never ever buy another Brother printer
