Only item that would fit a 2014 Camry, used it sidewise since the rails we had custom-made had to be close together (30 in.) on the roof. Went through 60 mph winds, rain, 109 degree heat, and over 2000 miles on this maiden voyage. The bag withstood it all, and over ten loadings and unloadings on this vacation. Still like new. Pleased we followed instructions to a T. Warning: you will reduce your m.p.g. using this product: by about 7% for us.
Our top carrier just made it through its first trip successfully. We traveled about 350 miles round trip and it held up through some nasty wind and rain. This carrier and pretty big and fit a lot of stuff, pretty impressed with the size. The only downside so far is how the instructions explain on how to attach it to our roof. We don't have a roof rack and one of the main reasons we purchased this is because it said you don't need a roof rack to attach for the roof. Well the instructions say to connect a short strap and long strap than stap the carrier down over the top and through the doors of the vehicle. The straps are too short! I have a relative with the next size smaller than ours and they have the same problem. We both have mid-size SUV's and the straps just weren't long enough to go over and through the vehicle like the instructions describe. Luckily we got four staps withe our carrier so I had to connect 2 long straps together to get them to go over and through. Unfortunately, me relative only had 2 straps and they had to rig it on the handles on the ceiling of their vehicle. They need to provide longer straps or shouldn't be advertised to attach through the vehicle without rack.
I filled it with tents and sleeping bags. I believed it would ride best full. I attached an additional line around the bad to the front of the car to prevent slippage at 70 mph. and a second line from the back to the rear bumper to prevent it flying forward if I had to slam on the brakes. We drove well over 20 hours and passed through one thunder and lightning storm with heavy rain. Everything arrived intact and dry. Bag seems no worse for wear.
Needed extra room for cargo while traveling in my Suburban. Gear Sport 3 fits well on the roof between the racks, plenty of space. Drove through a rain storm, nothing got wet. For my size of vehicle you need a step ladder to put items in the carrier correctly. If you put sharp edged items in carrier put towels along edge to protect from ripping the carrier sides. Good investment.
Good and functional solution, BUT If you do not have a roof rack, the tie down straps are too short, even when 2 are tied together as described (so that the 4 ties become two). Also, if you drive in the rain, the cargo in the carrier does stay dry, BUT the water runs into the car where the necessary tension on the tie-down holds the rubber door seal gasket open.
