I've been using extended performance oil for several years in both of my vehicles. I haven't experienced any issues and love only having to change oil once per year. I've used both Mobile1 and Castrol, and believe they are both great products!

I have used Mobil 1 for the life off my 2012 Toyota Rav4. Recently I changed to the high mileage form as my car went past 100,000 miles. The engine still runs like new and I expect to continue adding miles to this car.

I have been a mechanic for 35 years and wanted to clear up some information not clearly stated in reviews. 1. Engine oil color - a good detergent oil dissolves engine dirt and carbon and keeps it in suspension so it can be removed when the oil is drained. If your oil looks dirty within 100 miles of a change that means it is doing its job and cleaning the engine well. "Clean" looking oil actually is not cleaning the engine and not removing dirt. Changing the oil at short intervals of 3000 miles for the first two oil changes might be a good idea in an engine that is being switched to synthetic oil from conventional oil. Synthetic oil filters have more room to store dirt particles and filter down to a slightly smaller particle size and are worth the extra money, especially if you are using 15,000 mile oil changes. 2. Why do engines last long and retain performance better on synthetic oils? - In addition to having very good detergents, synthetic oils' most important property is resistance to breakdown under heat. Regular oils usually start to break down and form ash just under 400 degrees F. Good synthetic oils usually remain functional without burning to 600. degrees F. Some of the hottest lubricated parts in an engine are the piston rings. They are in close tolerance fitted slots in the piston and have to move freely in the slot to conform to the cylinder wall as the piston travels up and down in the cylinder. The rings are cooled and lubricated by oil which splashes into small grooves cut on the back of the piston ring slot as well as the oil which they scrape off the cylinder walls. The ring temperature can approach 500 degrees F under load and is frequently over 400 degrees. An oil which breaks down when exposed to the high piston ring temperatures forms ash in the ring slot behind and beside the ring. The ash jams the ring in its slot and prevents it from moving freely to stay in contact with the cylinder wall. The ash also prevents oil from getting into the ring slot and the ring is not lubricated properly. Oil scraped off the cylinder walls cannot escape through the groove at the back of the ring slot either. A hotter ring wears faster, creates more ash, and the ring slot is worn loose by the lack of lubrication. Piston rings stuck in their slots and tilting back and forth because of wear are the primary cause of blowby and power loss which are the first signs of wear in any engine. While keeping the engine clean, and good viscosity at high and low temperature extremes are important to prevent wear, the most important factor in long engine life is keeping the rings and grooves clean and lubricated to prevent premature ring and cylinder wear and loss of power due to blowby. That is what maintains crisp performance as the engine ages and that is due to synthetics oils' resistance to breakdown below 600. degrees F. When you disassemble a synthetic oil engine, besides being clean and new looking, you will find that the ring slots on the pistons are not plugged with black carbon from burned oil behind the ring and the rings still move freely in their slots. Hope this is a help to those interested.

I've noticed quite a few negative reviews that obviously didn't read instructions saying for the first couple oil changes to stick to normal 3,000 - 4,000 miles so that it can clean any access sludge and other stuff in your engine. I have found that this does exactly as stated and have over 214,000 miles on 05 Jeep Grand Cherokee. My engine still quiet and very smooth acceleration. I've been very happy with this oil and can definitely say that it's the best high mileage oil to get. It does cost little more and for first couple changes that is as I said before if you're vehicle is sludgish prior you need to do oil change at 3,000 twice in order to clear out junk and let this stuff do what it does. Although it's not going to fix a messed up engine that's leaking out had prior issues. I highly recommended

Everything I own gets Mobil 1. Yes even my lawnmowers. I have 2 walk behind John Deeres. Purchased them both new in the early 80s. Still starting first pull. Can you say that? I have worked for Porsche and Chevrolet . Porsche REQUIRES Mobil 1. Corvette REQUIRES Mobil 1 . I feel if the engineers feel it is needed in these high perf vehicles it is what Im using in everything.
