Danby DUF408WE Upright Freezer

Never worked - the weld / braze of the tubing by the compressor was faulty, and the Freon escaped. I had to drag it back to Walmart and order another. They should have a mechanism to replace defective items rather than return / reorder. Looked like otherwise a well made unit.....

This small upright freezer fits nicely in my pantry. The upright styling makes for easy access to items--much better than "losing" stuff in the bottom of a chest freezer, and I can keep my vacuum sealer setup on top of it.

This freezer actually exceeded my expectations. It is light enough to place on a low platform so that all the shelves are visible without having to stand on one's head to see the bottom shelf. The shelf spacing is perfect for standard sized freezer baskets and the door shelf design allows for small items to not fall out as is the case with brands that just use a crossbar for the shelf front. Contrary to some of the comments I've read it arrived in perfect condition.

Like most of these other reviews indicate, the freezer arrived with the box all smashed up. There are a few dents and a crack in the plastic on the door. The freezer functions fine but it's frustrating that Walmart doesn't bother to add additional packaging or get the manufacturer to do so. This same model is sometimes available at Home Depot and none of those reviews mention shipping damage. The freezer works quietly and well so far. We've only had it for a month or so.

I have found this unit to be quiet, efficient, and just the right size for two people. I have a large freezer at my home, but things seem to get lost, not in this unit. This freezer holds large turkey breasts, bags of fries, ice cream and the door is perfect for juice and small items. The only thing that would make it a five star is if it was frost free, and had a light, although in over a months use the frost is minimal. I use this unit in a very humid climate (South Coastal Texas), and the cost is less than I would have thought. Very affordable. The door swings either way with a little work,(instructions included with unit) and "whooshes" when closed giving a good seal.
