The Schwinn CF-1000 is a great value for a very good and well priced road bike. The combination of aluminum and carbon fiber form a really nice ride for a bike that retails at $550. The bike sizes at a men's 56cm frame with a 120mm stem making it for riders 5'10" to about 6'. The bike comes with wheels that I am not familiar with, however the wheels are well designed, fairly light and should handle everyday training. Shimano components throughout the bike which provides for easy and smooth shifting. Shimano 2300 line is decent, but if you wanted to race this bike and I believe this bike is up for the competition, one would definitely need to reach for the higher end Shimano components, i.e. ( DuraAce, Ultegra and or 105). Overall this is a very nice bike and ride for the price. If you can get past the ego, your cruising!
I bought this bike over 4 years ago. It has over 4000 miles on it and all I have had to replace is the chain for normal wear and tear and a couple tubes and a tire. I got this bike expecting it not to last but just get me started before I spent $2000 on another name brand. When I tell people where I got my bike and how much I paid for it they don't believe me. The are even more suprized to see me cross the finish line of the big events ahead of bike 5 times the price. Schwinn is back!
I've been riding a Burley Canto recumbent bike for the last year or so, but a coworker has a $1300 Redline road bike. I took it for a quick spin and wow, road bikes are fast! I love the comfy seat on my recumbent but I figured I could put up with a road bike seat and seating position for riding about two miles at a time around town. My new Schwinn weighs about as much as his much more expensive bike. It was easy for me to set up myself, although I've never adjusted derailleurs before and that did take several attempts. I probably have spent about 3-4 hours on setup and adjustments, but I'm happy with this because I like being self-sufficient and learning how to do new things. I removed the reflectors off the spokes because they were unbalancing the wheels at high speeds. I had a problem where the crank wasn't tightened down, and one of the pedal arms actually came off while I was riding. I had to walk the bike home because I couldn't reattach it without the right tool. It takes an 8mm allen wrench to tighten down and you should DEFINITELY CHECK YOURS! Not much to say that hasn't been said. Free shipping from Wal Mart is nice, the bike itself is nice, the pedals are super cheap and I should probably replace them. Bike fits me well at 6'1". I'm also considering replacing the seat and seat post with a lighter/more comfortable combination. I could probably shave a pound off the bike's weight with those upgrades. I'm getting a lot of compliments, keeping up with cars (25mph in town), going up hills like a boss, and saving money on gas! It's also a more intense workout than the recumbent bike, because I'm using my whole body instead of just my lower half. Overall I'm happier with it than I thought I would be.
I am an older rider staying in shape for skiing and getting in shape for some major touring stints in Europe. I have an older Legnano touring bike I've been everywhere on, but after a few years fallow, I needed a push to get going again, and this bike has been that push. I bought my CF1000 in store and got $50 off because mine has a small ding on the crossbar. So... an even better value! On the plus side... good, solid but slightly heavy frame and the carbon fork and stays really soften the ride over what you get with all-alu. Good wheels, but I wondered if the Schrader valves would maintain pressure. No matter, both tires blew out the first day b/c the rim tape had been improperly installed. I couldn't find 23/25 Schrader tubes anywhere, so now I have Presta and they work fine. The derailleur, esp. the front, is a pain to adjust. On the plus side, I called Pacific Cycle and not only did a cust. service rep walk me through the adjustments while I did them, but she also told me I had the wrong shifters installed and sent me a new set of shifters with the indexes clearly marked. On the (slightly) minus side, the crankset if heavy and mine has about 1/16" runout. All this is tolerable at the price. The bike weighs 22lbs, and a lot of that is due to a heavy crankset, a heavy aluminum mainframe, and crude derailleurs. For $1000 plus I might complain. I can change the parts (except the frame) I don't like, and I plan to do so at EBay this winter. For now, I am loving my rides on this bike. I have already installed Look-style clipless pedals, and with my Diadora shoes this thing really goes. (BTW, the shoes are red and white...) Oh, what does it mean that this bike does not show up anywhere on Schwinn's web site...?
I'd never rode a road bike before, this is my first one. I received it quickly, no scratch, there was hardly anything to install so it was ready in minutes (less time then i expected) I'm a girl, so the color/look was important and i just loove it! What scared me the most was the height of the frame, if the bike would fit me. All the reviews were kind of different, but for me it's the perfect size: I'm 5'55 with a long trunk and short legs. It's been only 2 weeks since i received it, i rode ~65miles on it. The shifts work really well. But, two times, i noticed the day afterward my ride, my rear tire was flat. It happened two times, i changed it the first time but it happened again, not even while riding but afterwards... I added to the bike a computer/odometer, water bottles things & clip pedals & it's all set for the road I couldn't be more happy and satisfied with this product
