I bought this on a whim because I got a great deal.. Other than the fact that I hate iPhones and cant use the app that came with it the unit provides an immense sound and is clear and just a blast to crank up and have fun with. I would stick to sony in the future... Lets do some android in the future... Come on... for real? Apple Only? :p
I have owned several 5.1 surround systems which I have used to watch movies at home. The Automatic Speaker setup system included with this amplifier, (complete with microphone) made this the easiest home theater sound system I have ever set up other than one I purchased which cost me olore than 5 time's more than what I paid for this amplifier. Great value.
Disappointed that there was no owner's manual included that would provide basic information on how to work the remote control and the receiver.
This receiver is almost ideal for hooking up AV for a small apartment space. It controls a bunch of recent and legacy equipment, including a TV, a Blu-Ray player, a CD changer, an audio cassette player, and a turntable for LPs. (I might even hook up my trusty old Betamax, just for looks.) It works great with legacy speakers and subwoofer.
I was replacing a 14 year old Sony receiver that finally called it quits. There is virtually NO documentation as to how to set this thing up - the "on screen" menu is NOT available through the Monitor Out (RCA) jack, ONLY the HDMI jack. I was eventually, with tech support on the phone, able to set it up to where I can use it as I did the old one (audio only - sources switched through the television). I think it's time for SONY to review the materials sent with their products to prevent frustration, having to call for support (I was a television engineer for 40 years and this threw me).
