Bought this to replace an older one I gave to my son, ran like a champ for years. The new one was purchased because of the Deracho that went through our area Benton Co. Iowa, August 10, 2020. Finally found one 75 miles away in Cedar Falls. First oil change 41hrs, second change at 109 hrs. The unit ran continuous for 187 hrs. straight! One pull start every time. The unit ran our 28,00 sq. ft. home, AC, frig, freezer, lights etc. Excellent piece of equipment and reliable! Never been happier. Thanks, Lee
I'm using this for most of the house through a 50amp manual transfer switch in the garage. The XG10000E is semipermanent mounted in my shed with custom exhaust through the wall to a automotive muffler and motorcycle baffles in tailpipe. It does a great job during power outages. Runs essentials that include water pump, AC, furnace, refrigerator, freezer, TV, and Ham radio station. Due to harsh Ohio winters I have a heat pad on the bottom frame to keep oil warm. Heat turns on when it drops to 20 degrees. I also have a Battery Tender on the battery. I'm on my second battery. Also exercise once each month. Nice peace of mind unit.
I am a professional electrical engineer and have specified this specific portable generator for small city maintenance departments to run small sanitary lift stations during an extended power outage as well as a few plug-in temporary back-up power applications for small buildings. I thought I'd get one for myself and see how it holds up over time. I'm pleased overall with this unit upon assembly and first test. The hardware package was missing a bolt which I had to get from the hardware store and the paper oil funnel was not very useful because of the oil fill location. This unit was not rated for sound decibels as others are. It seems loud compared to others. Not quite sure what a "low tone" muffler means in industry jargon but it sure isn't "low noise" level. A quieter muffler would be an improvement. I would have liked to have seen an auto-idle feature to save on gas at lower loads. That would help with noise as well. Overall, this portable generator offers much higher quality than it's cheaper competitors and come from a name brand company with a good reputation for making long lasting products at a reasonable cost.
Purchased the gp6500 after a lot of research. It offered the best power for the price. We only had to use it for a little over 1 hour for the first 7 months we owned it. We have been faithful in starting it about every other week or so and ran it with a load for about 20 minutes. We have kept the tank full of gas treated with stabilizer. Well sure enough we lost power this week do to freak March snowstorm. Started on the second pull. It ran over the course of three days for 29 hours. Worked flawlessly. Really a lifesaver, especially with three kids and the wife. Ran 3/4 of the entire house including a well pump, two refrigerators and a deep freezer. We have a Woodstove in the basement so no need for it to run a heat source. Bottom line... Awesome product, great value and so far seems durable. If you're debating this generator, go for it!!!!
Prior to purchasing the XG10000E I had read all of the on-line reviews so I was prepared for all of the assembly/set up issues that others had mentioned in their reviews. It took me a total of 45 minutes to set it up and get it running. I wanted a unit large enough to live comfortably when the power goes out and this one fit the bill. Yes, the unit is heavy but you can assemble the unit by yourself while it is on the pallet and swivel it around to get the wheels and front leg installed. I had purchased a funnel with attached hose from Pep Boys so I was prepared to add the oil. Without a flexible hose it will be difficult to add the oil. It took only 1.5 quarts to fill it. I put dielectric grease on the battery terminals and connected them. The battery terminals were a little tedious to attach but not terrible. I added 7.5 gallons of gas treated with Sta-Bil since most people had a problem starting their unit without at least 5 gallons or more of gas in the tank. I turned the fuel on, pulled out the choke, hit the start button for about 5 seconds and it started on the first try. Nothing was missing from the box and the unit seems like it is of very good quality. It was quieter than I had expected for such a large unit. It did come with 2 extra spark plugs and an air and oil filter and enough Sta-Bil to treat 2.5 gallons of gas. While I was at the store purchasing two 5 gallon gas cans ( I highly recommend the Eagle 5 gallon metal cans! Research before you buy!) and Sta-Bil I also purchased 2 quarts of 30 weight oil so I will be prepared to change the oil at 30 hours. The unit actually has an oil cooler which I thought was impressive and comes with a plug in battery charger which is OK but shouldnt be left plugged in for more than a day or two at a time. I will be looking into purchasing an automatic trickle charger like a Battery Tender which can be left plugged in at all times so I wont have to worry about it. Since there is not a pull start on this unit you wouldnt want to let the battery go dead. The electrician will be here to install the 50 amp 10 circuit manual transfer switch and I will be powering 2 refrigerators, a well pump, garage door opener, gas boiler and hot water heaters, gas range, living room including lights, TV and stereo system, and various lights in bedrooms and bathrooms. This will probabaly draw about 8000 watts at peak by my estimate but will review with my electrician to make sure I will not overload the unit. Now I just have to figure out how to protect it from the weather and theft when it is in use. It should not be ran in an enclosure so I will probably run it under a large tarp suspended at least 5 feet above the unit. As far as protecting it from theft a heavy duty chain and lock somehow fastened to the house is probably the way I will go. It is definitely a nice unit for the money and has enough power to allow you to live comfortably through an outtage. While I was at the store purchasing the gas cans the employee helping me was raving about his Generac telling me he ran it 14 days straight after Sandy hit without a hiccup.
