I, along with many people in this review thread; have had serious issues with keeping the product running for more than 15 seconds.. and seeing as it doesn't work when you wish to use it is enraging.. slamming it on the ground repetitively seems to be the only way to keep it on.. and even then, you have to do it so many times, you feel as if you're going to break it. I'll never purchase a Holmes product again

This unit is so frustrating! It will only stay on for 10-30 seconds and shut off, never to turn on again. You have to unplug or shut off for 5 min before it will turn on again ...and last for another 10 seconds! Worst heater ever. It's really quiet though...I guess because it's hardly ever on. I did an exchange and the same thing happened with the second unit.

I bought this heater to have in my cubicle at work. I thought the almost silent feature would be perfect. I realize an overheat shutoff is great for safety purposes, but when I turn the heater on it will only run for 20 seconds or so then turns off... and doesn't come back on... ever. I'm going to return this.

It's not often you find a heater that meets your expectations like this one. We wanted supplemental heat in a family room where we watch TV, so it had to be quiet. Aside from oil radiators, this is as quiet as they come. No annoying rattles, dimming of lights, or weird smells. If you want to heat a garage, get an infrared heater. In a bedroom, get an oil radiator so you can leave it overnight without fear. But if you want to heat a few people quietly, you can't beat this heater. Just set it to 80deg or turn it on or off as you wish. Like most heaters, the thermostat won't wow you with its accuracy.

I've had my heater for about two weeks or so and, in the beginning, I found myself a little apprehensive about keeping it. I paid $20 for it because someone at Walmart shoved all of the units to an area where a cheaper unit was sold (it was the same company however). Anyway, I examined it and it didn't seem to have a thermostat so I assume that the temperature settings refer to how many times during an hour it turns on and how long it lasts. The product never gets hot and keeps my room comfortable. At high setting, pumping warm air through the heated coils, it takes about an hour to warm up a 12x12 room in the low 60s or high 50s. My room has never gotten warmer than 75 however, which I don't mind; the house is filled with insulation leaks and my room is no exception. Cold air flows from the attic as well as a few small holes in the ceiling leading there created by a long-ago termite problem (like, 20 years ago). For a rather nearly air-tight apartment, I would say that it probably would get to 80. One thing I do have to say is annoying is sleeping with an orange glow in your room. The power light is annoyingly bright and encompasses the entirety of the unit. I put tape on top of the power button, but the thing still looks like a jack 'o lantern at night! It's a little ooky. I think at some point I might try and decorate it with a pumpkin face, just so I won't confuse myself.
