This is the best thing I have done for myself. I am 73 and live in the mountains. I burn only wood for household heat and had to depend on my son-in-law to come split my wood. Now I just go out, pull it to the log rack, plug it in and away I go. I am one really happy Granny.
Device works fine. Only concern is leading edge of splitter blade is radiused not knife edge. As a result logs pop part and can fly several feet. Would be better if splitter edge were sharp like most other splitters to slice into the log and separate.
it works great freshly cut oak but the stuff from last year was hard as a rock and wouldn't cut it. i split pieces up to approx 10 inch diam no sweat. T he last year supply that had got hard as a rock so I cut a 2 inch slice into the center of each piece and was able to get most of it to split.
Bought this a couple weeks ago to split a trailer of oak. Works pretty good, with the exception of the bigger pieces. Cut an X with my chainsaw on the wedge end of the logs and it splits them with no problem. Would recommend putting pointed studs on the ram end to help hold and keep it from slipping off when in operation.
Purchased mine in mid January. A couple weeks before an annual neighborhood party I host. I have two wood-burning fireplaces in my house. I always have both burning for guests to enjoy. I needed to split some wood, consisting of a mix of hard and soft woods. All wood was cut into std fireplace lengths. Most was cut 2 years ago stacked and covered across the top. "Usually I'll split by hand." I was running out of good weather and time, I needed to expedite the splitting process. I looked online for information and products available locally. Once located, I ran out and purchased. Raced home and quickly completed minor assembly. Plugged unit in and with a friends help, proceeded to easily and I'll also mention, "most enjoyably split nearly a full cord of wood in short order." The Earthquake Electric 5-Ton Log splitter preformed precisely as advertised. Smooth safe, easy operation, relatively fast and a whole lot of fun. Looking forward to the next time I can split some wood with "my" new log splitter.
