I originally purchased this fountain to add to my deck decor, but currently have it set up in the kitchen. I love the way the LEDs seem to bounce off the water, casting shadows onto the ceiling. The pump is strong, though water does not splash out onto the countertop. The fountain itself is the perfect size.
I'm reviewing this because the terrible reviews are ridiculous. I am a 27 year old petite female & I had the waterfall unboxed & set up in 5 minutes. No exaggeration. Zero issues. It works exactly as its supppsed to. As long as you continue to add water to it responsibly, it will remain fabulous! I'm giving 4 stars simply because I do not think it's worth the price. Had I seen it in person, I wouldn't have paid over 150.
Fallen log cascade have a very natural look, rock base not too much but the whole fountain look very nice and well done. This fountain have different names like Alpine Teton in this site, but it is the Alpine win256. I found few thing that help me with the assembly: _ Pump hose shall be separated from light wires, if you keep both together, cables can pull the pump and it can fall on its side. (Suction cups need a very flat surface to get a proper vacuum). _ Reservoir inlet don't have any debris filter, a small piece of fiberglass screen could help. _I place the fountain on rubber patio paver and not on the rock. Fountain bottom don't look too thick. _As suggested by others reviewer, I connected both cords to a waterproof dual outlet with wireless remote control kit.
Mine arrived with water in bottom of it, part of the pump missing and hard water scale on the spongy pad where the water comes through. Despite all this I was told HN never sells returns, OK. Option are to return it, which would be a nightmare to re-pack this thing, or they will give me $35 credit for the problems with it, but if voids the warranty. Considering I have discount coupons worth more than that $35 seems pretty cheap. After taking the pump to a local aquarium store and getting it fixed, drying out the electrical connector and using white vinegar to clean the hard water scale, my new unit is running fine. The fountain itself is nice, sound is pleasant, and give the rustic look I wanted in the garden. As for HN this is my last purchase from them. Their :we don't sell returns is not true, I also got a storage container from them that had been opened and had parts put back wrong. That I was able to assemble and it works fine, but when I pay for new, I want new.
I purchased this fountain in early May of and loved it. Wrote a five star review, in fact. However, now having had it for several months I find that there are definite design flaws. I still love the fountain as far as the overall look of it and give it the 2 stars for how pretty it is. I have to deduct the 3 for performance and operating design. I wanted a fountain not a pile of logs which were readily available to me on my wooded property. Here's the problem, which I have discussed with both Hayneedle and Alpine to no avail other than to receive inadequate adVice... top of the fountain where the water is pumped up has a piece of what they call ""foam"" securely glued over it. This is to ""allow the water to flow out flat"" I am told. I have two other fountains....no plastic, steel wool type rectangle glued to them. The bottom log (basin) where the water flows back into the reserve tank has nothing but an open hole. The problem here is that anything falling into the fountain (insects, needles, bits of leaves) flows freely into the reserve tank, up the tubing and then is trapped by the ""foam"" piece glued on top; severely restricting the water flow to a trickle. Hardly a waterfall. I would frequently hand clean anything I saw in it out. My first called to HN questioned if someone had glued the foam to the wrong place. They called Alpine and I was told it was correct. I decided I would have to, after only a month and a half, take the fountain apart and clean the tubing itself because I was concerned about overstressing the motor. At that point I realized the top of the tubing was glued to the inside top of the fountain. This design is BACKWARDS! The filter should prevent foreign particles from getting INTO the reserve not prevent them from getting out of the flow tube. A flow tube should always be removable for proper cleaning or replacement. When I spoke to Alpine they saw nothing wrong with the design. Will require constant maintenance.
