Product Details

The Kidde i12060A is an AC/DC powered, ionization smoke alarm that operates on a 120V power source with 9V battery backup. This alarm uses ionization sensing technology. Ionization sensing alarms may detect invisible fire particles (associated with flaming fires) sooner than photoelectric alarms. Photoelectric sensing alarms may detect visible particles (associated with smoldering fires) sooner than ionization alarms. The front-loading battery door allows user to change the battery without removing the alarm from the mounting bracket making battery replacement easy and convenient. This smoke alarm is available in a 6-piece cut case with tray for easy display as well as a 6-piece bulk pack for contractors and property owners. This unit is a UL Listed product with a 10-year limited warranty. Photoelectric sensing alarms may detect visible particles (associated with smoldering fires) sooner than ionization alarms. Kidde strongly recommends that both ionization and photoelectric smoke alarms be installed to help insure maximum detection of the various types of fire that can occur within the home.

Front battery pull tab allows battery activation without removing alarm from mounting bracket. Large mounting base makes mounting easier, protects surface paint from dirt and covers imperfections. Pre-stripped wiring harness with easy off cap does not require stripper tool. Tinned strands increase conductivity and wire nut grip. Front battery door makes replacing the battery easy for anyone. One button design for easy operation and less confusion. Operates Hush™ and alarm test. Battery run down protection will shut down alarm memory when AC power is not present, reducing low battery chirp. Tamper resist locking feature deters alarm theft. Alarm memory flashes red LED indicating which unit was the initiating alarm in interconnected system. Battery backup provides protection in case of power failure. Interconnectable with up to 24 devices (of which 18 can be initiating) including smoke, CO and heat alarms

Loved getting these in a 6 pack! We are building a house so it was nice to just be able to buy a 6 pack and have them come in a box instead of buying seperately. I'm also really impressed with the dust cover they come in, while building the house there is lots of saw dust and other debris from working. These haven't gotten dirty at all because of how well they are packed! Very well thought out!

I acquired the 120 volt Kidde Ionization smoke alarms hoping that it would enhance my family's safety. I am always concerned about whether we do enough to provide for our children's safety. We took out our fireplace because it was too dangerous and installed a pellet stove, which is much safer, but we still worry about the potential for a fire. With the Kidde system, if one alarm is triggered, all alarms go off. How you can tell which one triggered the alarms is it will be the one with the blinking light. By resetting that alarm, you can reset them all, and silence a false alarm. I like the fact that it sets off all the alarms on the network, or all the alarms on that are linked through the wiring. Yes, it is a wired system, and the alarms must share a common wire harness that links them together with nothing else on the system. If your home is not wired for this, you may need a professional electrician to set it up for you and room in your circuit panel for them to add the system. If your home has more than one floor, you may need more than one set. The set I bought comes with 6 alarms which is more than I needed for my 3 bedroom, one story home. The front battery door makes it so easy to make sure your back up always has a fresh battery without having to take the alarm down to change it out.

These Kidde contractor hardwire ionization smoke alarms with front battery doors are easy for even noncontractors to install if you are replacing already existing alarms. If you are installing alarms in your home for the first time, I suggest having a professional do it for you. I am replacing all the smoke alarms in my home because the previous owner broke off the little door that held in the battery backup and disabled the battery backup. I can only assume this is because they didn't want to hear the chirping when the battery got low. This isn't a good idea since the battery backup keeps the smoke alarm working even when the power is out. Removing the old smoke alarms and connecting the new alarms was easy and self-explanatory, though they came with easy-to-understand instructions. If you are not replacing existing units but installing your smoke alarms for the first time, the instructions come with suggestions for where to and not to place them. Testing the alarms easy super easy. You just need to push and hold down the test button for a minimum of five seconds. If the alarm sounds, then it and the other interconnected alarms are in working order. There is no need to test all the alarms. Overall, I would say these alarms are an excellent deal.

I love that these smoke detectors come with batteries (just rip out the plastic covering the battery and the battery connection is made). It's also great that I can outfit our entire home's inventory of smoke detectors with one swoop. Our local fire department provides smoke detectors free, but I used to look all over creation for versions that were hardwired only. We got so sick of chirping at weird hours of the day when one would start to go bad (it was always in the wee hours of the morning). Occasionally, the entire house alarm would mistakenly fire. Better a mistake than the real thing (I'll take a false alarm any day over an actual alarm denoting a fire). I really prefer not to lose sleep if I can make the process better for replacement of detectors/batteries. These detectors are the next best thing to a hardwired only detector (which doesn't exist anymore). The battery compartment can be accessed from the front so you don't have to take off the entire detector to put the battery on the underside facing the ceiling (who ever designed that?). These detectors are compatible with other Kidde detectors as well as our FireX ones (though we had to remove the backing on a few for installation...easy as pie if you just loosen the screws a tad, slide the old backing off the wires that you unplug from the old detector, slide on the new round backing plate so that it fits over the screws, tighten the screws, and plug your detector into the hardwiring for your detector that is already in place. The hardwiring was the same for us for these two brands (red/plack cords connecting to a "plug" for activating the detector looks remarkably similiar). This is SOOOOO much better than the typical smoke detector (battery on underside). No more having to figure out where to line up the components/notches that need to be lined up perfectly to get the detector to fit snugly against the ceiling mount without falling. Of course, the detectors do their job (most importantly), but, let's be honest, smoke detectors can be a real pain when they start to go bad! These are the best we can do, and for an outstanding value and convenience due to the multi-pack.

I used these to replace 20 year old smoke alarms and love how well they work. They were really easy to hookup and swap out from the old ones. I especially love the front opening for the battery. It is so much easier instead of having it in the back. To also comes from a brand I trust. It's modern looking and I highly recommend it.
