Without my battery mod I would give this a 4 star rating. The stock battery is a 450mah 20c 3.7v. For how heavy this is, that's barely enough power for it. I carefully took the plastic top piece off the bottom foam, cut the stock battery out with the holder that weighted 16 gram, and installed a 720mah 25c 3.7v battery that weighs 15.8 grams. Next I added a walkera style battery connector to the Speeder bike power cable, and ran the new battery with its connector and the new speeder bike connector outside at the bottom, so I can use a external better Charger. Painted them flat black to match and hide the ends on the bottom. WAyyyyy more power than before. This speeder bike even stock battery is only for outside use, unless you have a very large inside room, saw a garage and that's not enough. This speeder bike need need a good 100 foot area so you can open it up. Detailing of the Bike and storm trooper is very good.
I think the concept was great and it seemed to be more sturdy tham other flying toys we have gotten in the past. My son flew this for just 5 minutes and one of the propellers broke in half. Was very disappointed, and I also have a disappointed son. We have tried to superglue it but it doesn't fly the same. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
My husband and two oldest kids have been the ones that have been trying this out since we received it. They took this outside daily and tried it out. Overall everyone enjoyed it a lot. I would have given this a 5 star if it wasn't for two things: 1) the retail price 2) how fragile this is. When I first received it the hand was broken at the wrist( you can see it in the photo). One of the propellers broke from a bad landing and the other hand broke off from landing. I feel that for the price and how fragile this is , you would be better off with either an adult or a teen using this . Someone who is going to be pretty gentle with it. My husband did fine with this, but my 10 and 8 year old were not able to land as gracefully as daddy. Hence the broken pieces. Now, when I talked to my husband about it ,he said he felt the guy on top was really unnecessary and made more issues then need be. My response being that it was supposed to be the whole star wars speeder experience but he still said it should be omitted. On a final note, the life span of the charge was only about 30 mins which was disappointing. This seems to run out of power fast no matter how long you charge it. I did like that the controller had both batteries and was able to be charged. My overall conclusion is, for the price and how delicate this product is, you would be better off giving this to a teen or adult. As far as fun goes, this was a really fun toy. We need to replace the propeller right now and plane to use again as soon as its fixed. Everyone really enjoyed it, just wish it was much more durable. The drone it self runs on a rechargeable battery. Took about an hour to charge. The remote control takes 6 aa batteries. That seems like a lot to me. The drone is very light and made of styrofoam and plastic. It was not to hard to fly. It took me about 5 minutes to get the hang of it. What I really like is the feature that limits how high it can climb in the air. My 8 year old son turned the limit switch of and crashed it on my neighbors roof. Good thing my neighbor was cleaning his gutters and was not a problem for him to get it down. On a full charge we were able to fly the drone for about 20 minutes. Not bad for our first attempt. The speeder bike and the scout trooper look authentic , like he came off the movie set.The bad part was on our fourth crash on the sidewalk, a front piece broke off. It did not affect the flight at all. Just wish that area was made stronger to handle all the crashes that will happen when children get this toy. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
This is a really great drone for kids that are just learning how to fly these fun types of toys. My son is 11, and this is his first drone but he learned how to control it pretty quickly. The stabilization feature is great for unsure first time flyers or younger kids who want to play with big kid toys. The drone will need to charge more often that kids would like, but in all reality the battery life on this Speeder Bike is just as good as my husband's $400 drone, so the battery life is good for the price of the toy. Very durable for a child's toy, but then again I do kind of expect that from Air Hogs, we love their RC toys. We live in a rural part of the desert so if the Speeder Bike does come down quickly, it's not a soft landing. There hasn't been any damage to the toy despite a few first time 'oopsies', and has kept my son entertained day after day. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
