Alaffia Authentic African Black Soap, Unscented 16 oz

I'm allergic to sulfates. Such as sodium laureth sulfate, a very common chemical in liquid soaps. I used to use Alaffia Everyday Shea unscented, but can't buy it anymore. I'm finding this black soap acceptable having no sulfates, and if diluted slightly, it can be used in the old shea bottles. I gave it 4 stars because it still has a stronger scent than the shea, which is still my fav. Very pleased with Alaffia products.

A friend turned me on to this soap last year (by accident-we were traveling together and I forgot soap, so he lent me his), and I've tried to stay stocked up on it ever since. I have eczema and a taste for natural-ish products, so this works great for me. It cleans deep and is never irritating. I use it as hand soap, body wash, shampoo, shaving cream, and to hand-launder my silk pillowcase. It takes a moment to lather up, but it's totally worth it!

If you need a soap without fragrance this may be for you (if you consider the smell of clay to be free of fragrance). Shower time: my skin loves this soap. Bath time: this soap has very little lather (for my takes away from the overall experience of a nice relaxing bath but it doesn't irritate the skin or your PH levels. Shampoo: not a shampoo at all (my opinion). Shaving: do not use this for shaving, it is not a shaving cream or gel (you need to use shaving cream or gel to shave). I think this company wants their soap to be all purpose SOAP IS NOT ALL PURPOSE.

African black soap is the only kind of soap I've found that doesn't irritate my hypersensitive skin. This was a little thicker than other brands I've tried, but it still works without causing any irritation. 10/10 will buy again!

I use this as a body wash, shampoo, and face wash and have been very satisfied. I have extremely oily and acne prone skin (I've been on accutane) and had recently been breaking out, but this has really helped. I wash my face with it at night for at least 60 seconds and just wash with water in the morning and my face has cleared significantly. It leaves my skin and hair feeling super clean, definitely will repurchase.
