The aesthetic of the product is excellent and it is fairly light weight. 65 gallons is a good amount of water as well. It would be great if the main container was a single piece. Instead, it is composed of 2 parts that have been glued together with some kind of epoxy resin. The spigot is also not appropriate for the container and as others have mentioned, does not allow proper use due to the handle butting up too close to the container. I had to purchase a different spigot with a round handle.
The packaging says this plastic rain barrel is made with known carcinogens. I have a small child who helps with gardening but also touches everything. Never would have purchased this if I had known, and nowhere does it say that it's made with carcinogenic materials in the product description. Hoping I can return and get a full refund but no word back yet.
We live in California where the drought and mandatory water conservation has killed several trees and threatened to kill many of our established plants. We bought one urn and liked it so much we bought another. It was extremely easy to install and is so efficient that it fills with less than an inch of rainfall. We set the second urn up 100' away and can easily fill it using a garden hose attached to the spigot of the original urn. These urns are very attractive and seem to be very sturdy. We also attached a flexible hose to the overflow port. We use this water to irrigate plants that sit 20" away from the house.
We have a small garden in our backyard and several rain barrels serving as the primary irrigation sources. While I understand the utilitarian purpose is primary, it's so nice to have a collection vessel that is also aesthetically pleasing, too! This one sits on our porch because it's pretty enough to be seen AND it works beautifully!
Would be best in area of country that does not freeze. Do not want product that I have to take in because of winter damage. It should be stated in product description that it is plastic. Then you can make your own desecion. Kinda feel like I was taken by a film flam.
