I all but gave up on being able to composting my own kitchen waste until I found this system. Now I am in my 6th month of using and burying my kitchen/coffee scraps. And I am getting a bonus of black compost tea!! Thanks for making this system so easy.
I recently received my compost bucket and am excited to see how the process will work. My excitement was dampened however, because the front of the bucket was left with a sticky terrible looking mess after I tried to remove the large label. It would be nice if the company would use a different glue. Until they do DO NOT try to remove the label. I hate the looks of the bucket now and it will probably look worse as time goes by as dust and grime will stick to the front of the bucket. I tried everything I know - from soaking to using alcohol, etc but cannot get the sticky mess off the bucket.
I love my Bokashi composting system. I started using it early last winter and it works beautifully. I emptied the full bucket into a large feed container and dumped some soil on top. Worked great until I could put in my raised beds this spring. Certainly taking away the guilt when something gets a bit too old in the refrigerator.
I like the idea of a strainer and spigot for draining compost tea. One inconvenience was having to pull out and push down the sealable lid each time. Thinking I was clever, I instead didn't seal it but thought I kept it airtight with a heavy weight on top. It turned out that flies were still able to get in and spawn maggots. Now, I know why the seal is necessary but is there a more convenient way to seal it? Thanks!
I bought two kits. We have two people in our household and it has taken about a month to fully fill the first bin. We then removed it from under our sink and put it outside to finish. That's where the second bin comes in. I can't yet comment on the compost as the first bin isn't done cooking, but what I can say is the system is super easy and there is no odor associated with the bin sitting under the sink.
