It's worth mentioning I NEVER review items I have purchased but I need everyone to be well informed before doing the same. I purchased an encasement years ago for my son's mattress since we received it from a friend and I wanted to be cautious. Never needed to check the cover (ever) since we never had any bed bug issues...until now! Recently we have become infested so I purchased 2 more covers for our other child's mattress as well as our own. I had our cover on for about a week. We then had to remove the cover since treatment was beginning and we wanted our mattress sprayed, just in case. When removing the cover I noticed small holes where the Velcro is sewn onto the cover. Velcro is used to cover zipper. It just seems like the Velcro is too thick to be sewn onto the thinner cover. Since noticing it on our cover, I thought I should check my son's since he's had it all these years. Sure enough! There were holes in the same spot! Having bed bugs is such a traumatic experience in itself, not to mention finding out the covers that are supposed to keep then out (or in) will not do that! I even sent an email to ALLEREASE and I have received no response. Like mentioned in another review, I can't simply return them since they have been on beds in an affected home and my son's is a few years old already. Very disappointed and traumatized...
This product is not washer dryer friendly. The care instructions said it can be washed and dried in machine but after first wash it came out all stuck together. When I tried to pull it apart it ripped and made tiny holes in the fabric rendering it useless against bed bugs. Waste of money
Neighbor complained about bedbugs, so I purchased this cover along with one for my box spring. It does not work. It is made of flimsy paper like material and 3 days after having on the mattress, I discovered 3 rips in it. I called the company and they sent me a replacement that did not have the flimsy paper like material on it. It was fabric. No rips in that one but a few weeks after having it, I got bit by a bedbugs. I examined the encasement and found no holes so I placed packing tape all along the zipper and Velcro. Couple months pass and no bites. I notice that the tape is losing its stickiness so I pull it off and discover 4 bedbugs stuck to it which means they were crawling right out of the encasement zipper area. If I had not placed the packing tape there, we would have been getting bit up. So, this encasement is not bedbug proof as they say. They have great customer service but a horrible product that does not work. They should add "Must use tape along zipper in order to be bedbugs proof" on the box.
We found 1 bed bug on our comforter and that day I immediately went to Walmart and bought the queen size cover for our mattress. I read the reviews saying that it ripped easily, so I made sure to have my husband help me put it on the bed and we were very careful, and did not experience any problems. My mother-in-law purchased an extra one to cover our boxspring too, and we have had no more bed bug evidence since covering the mattress and boxspring. My mother-in-law bought mattress & box spring covers for her room at Bed, Bath & Beyond, and I felt like the ones she bought for her room were better quality, but it was about $70 for the mattress cover & $80 for the boxspring cover. I think if you have the $$ to spend on the nicer ones, than go with the nicer ones, but if you don't have the $$ then I think this would be sufficient. Just be careful when you're putting it on and taking it out of the box and I think you'll be fine. My mother-in-law also bought the pillow protectors for all our rooms, and even bought twin size ones for my kids room, and they've worked out fine. They are a little bigger than the mattress but I think that is to make taking it on and off easier, I don't find it uncomfortable at all.
I purchased this Mattress Protector for a Queen size 14" thick Mattress. The purpose was to reduce any Allergies & Dust Mites. I have to say that I am pleased with this Product. It is a bit tricky to get on, but with two people it took less than five minutes. We started at the Top of the bed one person on either side at the Corner. Each person than proceeded to place "their" corner inside the Mattress Protector. Then you simply lift and slide the Protector as if putting on a Sock. I feel it was worth the price. I cannot comment on the "Bed Bug" aspect of this product as I do not have Bed Bugs. But given the thickness of the product I would say it may do the Job with Bugs.
