We have a place on our land where water will fill when we have a good rain. It's not a place we want want standing water. We need this spot as a crossing and have tried some other things but it's a difficult area. We decided to try a pump. So far it has really helped. With a few blocks strategically placed in the lowest area, we can run the pump and get across.
Have not completed permanent installation but did test. Has very good capacity and flow is strong enough for good lift capacity. Great feature is the extra long electric cord that eliminates the need for an extension cord in many installations. Can't wait to see it work in waterfall.
I know this is supposed to be for waterfalls and cute water accessories, but I got it to pump water out of a cow water tank. The tanks need cleaning once a year. We have to take a generator out there to power it and I cover the pump unit with cheesecloth (where the water suctions in) because there's a lot of gunk in these tanks and I'd rather rinse the cloth than take a chance on clogging the water pump. Anyway it beats a bucket and with a long hose we can keep the water away from tanks to avoid mud. We haven't use it on the last few inches where there is a lot of the gunk (algae and decaying stuff) but we're still playing with it. You have to make sure the cheesecloth or other cloth doesn't get sucked in and I think a different mesh might be better overall, but we haven't figured out the perfect setup just yet (and since we don't do it for fun, it's not like I"m going to go do it 10 times in a row just to see...) The unit moves water. That's what it is designed to do!
The 2100 Hurricane Pump is rated at 2100 gallons per hour and I believe it. It will pump water to a height of 13' 1" when using a 3/4 inch hose at the outlet of the pump at a rate of 444 GPH. The lower the height you pump the higher the flow rate. A column of water has more weight the taller the column of water. The pump will pump 2100 GPH if the you only pump the water to a height of 1 foot. The pump needs to be pumping water or it will over-heat and void the warranty, so do no run it dry. The pump, running, draws 1.2 amps, but the higher you pump the water the more power is required so the amps(current flow) will increase. When you take the pump out of the water it will drain completely which is a good thing especially in cold climates, which prevents any freezing and you do not harm the pump. I really like this pump. It takes up very little space.
I use this Alpine Corporation 2100GPH Hurricane Heavy-Duty Pump in a horse trough. The trough catches rain water and I use the rain water to water my garden. The flow rate is more than adequate for what I need. It will siphon out even when not in use so be careful with that.
