When I first ordered this pump I was hoping it would help me when my basement floods. I mistakenly read the specs incorrectly as my basement doesn't get as much water as this pump needs to work properly. No big deal. As someone who always looks for multiple uses in items to get the most out of my money I realized that the pump will not only work for removing water from the pool to have the ideal level for maximum fun, I can also use this in the dog pool to shoot water out and make a great, fun activity for the dogs. The pump was super easy to hook up. It has a great shooting capacity that the dogs love running through, trying to catch the big water droplets. The pump is not too heavy, so you can maneuver it easily. I would recommend this pump for humans and dogs alike.
We have a place on our land where water will fill when we have a good rain. It's not a place we want want standing water. We need this spot as a crossing and have tried some other things but it's a difficult area. We decided to try a pump. So far it has really helped. With a few blocks strategically placed in the lowest area, we can run the pump and get across.
I was delighted to find this Alpine Corp. 2100gph Hurricane Heavy Duty Pump. I have a Koi pond in my yard and good pumps are vital in keeping the fish happy and healthy. My pond holds approximately 1400 gallons of water so the 2100 gallon per hour rate on this pump is just about perfect for cleaning and aerating the water. The power provided is more than enough to force the water up to the height of the top of the “falls” and the splash back into the pond traps needed oxygen for the fish. It is black, as most are, and has a very generous cord of 33 feet. This pump has a lot going for it. However it is far from perfect. My first issue is the placement of the intake. It sits directly on the bottom of the pump which means that it will likely suck up a lot more crud along with the water and might need to be cleaned way more often. We will have to see about that. All the pumps I have purchased in the past had intakes on the side which seems more efficient. Also you should never put the pump at the lowest point in the pond. Accidents, broken hoses, wildlife an other unforeseen stuff happens and if you are not there to fix it immediately you fish could be left high and dry ...and dead. My second issue is that the outflow pipe does not fit properly. In the attached picture it shows the outlet fitting pointing up, which makes perfect sense. However because of the way the L-shaped fitting is threaded when tightened it points directly down, making it difficult/impossible to position. You could stack some rocks and try to balance it well enough to leave room for the outflow but that is awkward an just begging for trouble. I removed the L-joint altogether which means the outflow points straight out of the pump near the bottom. It's not ideal but at least it works.
This heavy duty pump is awesome and is worth money. You will be pleased because this pump has like a screen under neath to where just water and small object can get through. Not a lot of trash will clog it up. Also, it has 3 different hose fittings for your needs. It also has a super long cord. We love this.
The 2100 Hurricane Pump is rated at 2100 gallons per hour and I believe it. It will pump water to a height of 13' 1" when using a 3/4 inch hose at the outlet of the pump at a rate of 444 GPH. The lower the height you pump the higher the flow rate. A column of water has more weight the taller the column of water. The pump will pump 2100 GPH if the you only pump the water to a height of 1 foot. The pump needs to be pumping water or it will over-heat and void the warranty, so do no run it dry. The pump, running, draws 1.2 amps, but the higher you pump the water the more power is required so the amps(current flow) will increase. When you take the pump out of the water it will drain completely which is a good thing especially in cold climates, which prevents any freezing and you do not harm the pump. I really like this pump. It takes up very little space.
