We trimmed our two dogs Alaskan Eskimo/terrier mix. The had very long and thick hair. Trimmed both of them the same day one after the other and the clippers did NOT overheat or drag. Very pleased with this product, very quiet which did NOT scare the dogs...a PLUS!!!
I got this to shave my cats as I was tired of paying $85 per cat - I have 3 cats! I have never tried this before so keep that in mind. The clippers work well although I did need to be sure the fur was shaken off the clippers after each round. It shaved them well on the back and half way down the sides; then I had a hard time figuring out what direction to go to get results. The video only dealt with dogs so it wasn't much help. Bottom line is that my cats look pathetic but that is due to my lack of skill. For the money, I think these clippers did very well.
I have never used clippers before so I didn't know if I would be able to do a good job grooming my Poodle/Bishon and my Shorkie (Shih Tzu/ Yorkie mix) before the clippers arrived I actually went online to look up "How to Clip and groom your dog" I found lots of videos on how to's. So, when this arrived I watch their video which was informitive, but seriously look up the how to's online you'll get a better lesson that way. This clipper was very easy to use and very quite too. I did buy thinning sheers extra but they do have sissors that come with the kit plus everything else you'll need. Anyway after about 15 or 20 minutes the clipper got fairly warm but really not unbearable at all I had already clipped everything that was close to the skin so I recommend doing that at first then you won't have to worry about the warn blade. I love these and my dogs look just as good as the groomers did, saves me lots of money the clippers cost me about the same as one visit for each dog at the groomers so it paid for it's self the very 1st uses. My dogs look awesome and I really enjoyed learning to use the clippers it was so easy. Love them !
Based on the various reviews, I decided to give this product a try because I have two long-haired dogs, a Pinny Poo (half Mini-Poddle, half Mini-Pinscher) and a Rough-Coat Jack Russell Terrier, and the old cheap clippers I had were frustrating. I cut the Pinny Poo dog first since it's hair is finer. As another reviewer indicated, with one of the guard attachments on, the clippers cut the hair, but it is a slow process. The process was more difficult on the Jack Russell since its hair is much more coarse. In addition to the clippers not cutting as smoothly as expected, the blades get quite hot as was also mentioned in another review. I think it would have been uncomfortably hot on the dog if one of the plastic guards was not in place. I oiled the blades multiple times during use but this did not keep them from getting hot. Overall, I am very disappointed. I expected more from Andis. I think the results are more inline with, say, a $30.00 pair of cheaper clippers. I think to get the results I expect, I will probably have to jump up to a professional level clipper. Unfortunately, they are $100.00+. For now, I'm taking these back. The only positive things I can say about these clippers is they did not actually hang up. They did keep cutting but it was a slow, painful process. Also, they are relatively quiet.
I bought this product based on the reviews. It looked like a nice set for the price. The DVD was informative and I followed it's instructions. Everything went fine at first. I even commented to my husband about how great they were. After I did my Shih-Tzu's back and one side, things began to go downhill. The clippers heated up and just pulled his hair instead of cutting it. We took a break to let them cool down. I oiled them (for the 3rd time) and tried again. They wouldn't cut a thing and heated up quickly. They're going back tomorrow. Maybe they would work on thin or fine hair, but they only made it through about 1/3 of my dog's courser, thicker hair.
