It's celestial season for the Pittsburgh Pirates when angels join them on the field for a wild race to the world series! Along the way, their cantankerous manager, Guffy McGovern (Paul Douglas), discovers that respect, team work - and a little faith - go a long way towards turning mediocre players into pennant-winning champions. When pretty newspaper reporter Jennifer Paige (Janet Leigh) blasts McGovern in a story, he flies right off the handle and into a losing streak. Then, on one amazing night amidst a roaring clap of thunder, an angel speaks to him and promises heavenly help both on the field and in the line-up in exchange for milder behavior and a calmer attitude. McGovern is skeptical at first, but things soon take a screwball twist sending the Pirates on their way around the bases and into the hearts of fans everywhere.
